  • Ponderosa Cycle Link

Created by WildNorthlands // 1 thread

Creating a cycle route through the Ponderosa would shorten journeys between the University and Hillsborough and avoid a tricky junction (Upperthorpe Rd/Martin St)

  • Birley Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Implement a 20mph limit on the roads surrounding Birley Community College and Birley Community Primary School to enable children to walk and cycle to school safely. The 20mph would apply to Birley Moor Road, Birley Lane, Fox Lane and all the residential roads that they encircle.

  • Manor Castle Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Create protected space for cycling along Prince of Wales road: a wide, arterial route which links the residential areas of Manor and Woodthorpe and runs past Sheffield Park Academy school. A safe and pleasant cycle route would also allow people to access the large employers and leisure sites in the Lower Don Valley.

  • Beauchief and Greenhill Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Create protected space for cycling along Greenhill Parkway between Meadowhead and Bradway. It's a wide 40mph road which cuts across through the major residential areas of Meadowhead, Greenhill and Lowedges. A protected route separated from motor traffic would enable people to access local shops and Meadowhead School by bike.

  • Firth Park Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Create a safe cycle route for students at Longley College by installing protected space for cycling along the A6135 Barnsley Road between Deerlands Avenue and Herries Road. This would allow students living in Parson Cross, Longley and Firth Park to travel to college by bike on a safe and pleasant route, and would also provide a cycle link to the Northern General Hospital, a huge employer.

  • Stocksbridge and Upper Don Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Provide improved walking and cycling access to Wharncliffe Woods from Oughtibridge by creating a route through the space behind Coronation Park through Station Lane/Riverview Road. Access is currently via Platts Lane which means you have to walk or cycle along Oughtibridge Lane: a busy, fast and narrow road with no footpath which is unpleasant to cycle on. This will also provide access to the planned Little Don Link Route into the Peak District.

  • Dore and Totley Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Make Ecclesall Woods a peaceful and pleasant natural space by implementing 20mph speed limit, protected space for cycling and pedestrian crossings along Abbey Lane. The woods are a valuable and well used amenity for residents and visitors to South West Sheffield but the tranquillity and enjoyment is threatened by 40mph traffic passing along Abbey Lane which makes crossing the road dangerous and unpleasant, and cuts the woods in two. A total change to the environment here would see those enjoying the woods take precedence over motor traffic.

  • Ecclesall Ward Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Create protected space for cycling along Ecclesall Road and Ecclesall Road South to link the large residential areas of Ecclesall, Greystones, Banner Cross, Brincliffe and allow people to travel to Endcliffe park and the many shops and local businesses on Ecclesall Road by bike. The route would also form part of a direct, safe and pleasant cycle route into the city centre from the west of Sheffield which would be of huge benefit to commuters.

  • Contra-flow cycling on Godalming High Street

Created by Chris Peck // 1 thread

A long, tortuous issue, where no progress has been made, despite large amounts of effort. Godalming High Street was recommended for adopting as a trial two-way working for cyclists in 2001, thanks to Alec McCalden's excellent presentation to the Planning Inspector at the time.

However, the trial was never carried out. Cyclists continue to use the street in both directions, as there are plenty of ways to get out of the way of oncoming cars.

The City of London has introduced dozens of contra-flow cycling schemes on narrow streets and lanes across the City. A third of all the cyclists are now using the contraflow. There has been 1 cycle crash three years post-introduction (there were 2 in the three years before). See here for more details: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/transport-institute/pdfs/Cheung_slides.pdf

  • Fulwood Space for Cycling request

Created by Dexter Johnstone // 1 thread

Create protected space for cycling along Fulwood Road which passes within 1/2km of no fewer than 8 schools. The road is currently busy and very hostile with no safe cycle provision. A protected route, separated from motor traffic would allow children the freedom to cycle to school.
