  • S/3405/18/RM Northstowe Parcels H5 & H6 - 240 new dwellings

Created by Matthew // 1 thread

Just a quick look over reveals some serious problems. Planning Statement Section 2.3 - 'main' cycle/pedestrian route is somewhat indirect and appears to run within the blind-spot of several driveways. Planning Statement Section 4.4 - a litany of how NOT to design cycle parking. Layout - missing pedestrian crossings at several minor junctions - although there also appear to be some continuous footways at others, curiously enough. ... Approval of reserved matters for appearance, landscaping, layout and scale following Outline planning permission S/0388/12/OL for the erection of 240 dwellings along with garages, roads, sewers and all ancillary, the outline application was subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) http://plan.scambs.gov.uk/swiftlg/apas/run/WPHAPPDETAIL.DisplayUrl?theApnID=S/3405/18/RM&theTabNo=3 S/3405/18/RM

  • Lack of drop kerb (drop kerb was removed Feb-Mar 18)

Created by RL // 1 thread

Drop kerb removed from Tanners Moat-Rougier Street pavement as part of Lendal gyratory works Feb-Mar 2018. Makes movement from Tanners Moat to Rougier St pavement difficult, hazardous, unattractive, painful for people with buggies, wheeled luggage, in mobility buggies, in wheelchairs or pushing same, people on bikes and all variants including heavy electro-assist models, laden with luggage (part of NCM65 avoiding pedestrian-only Scarborough bridge), with children, with trailers, and everyone who experiences pain from lifting/bumping a bike or anything else up a kerb. Brings people on bikes and variants turning off Lendal bridge into Tanners Moat into conflict with those using the cycle cut-through as a dropped kerb. (The turn is already tricky.) Council said it didn't do counts of who uses or the type of user on Tanners Moat before removing the drop kerb. Undermines Government aim for most short journeys to be made on foot or on bike by 2040. Does not support York's ageing population. Undermines the tourism offer.

  • 18/1339/FUL 99 Hills Rd - Erection of a detatched one bed dwelling.

Created by Matthew // 1 thread

Detached rear garden flat. Cycle parking vaguely specified to be in a corridor next to the building. Shows 1 car parking space for the new flat and 2 car parking spaces next to the new flat that are unclear in use. Also claims that the front garden will be used for car parking, which has attracted the attention of Highways noting that there is no existing permission for an access onto Hills Road, and they would oppose any that required reversing onto Hills Road. (note: the houses on this stretch of Hills Road almost all appear to have this form of illegal front garden parking, sigh) ... • Higham Road and Wilmot Road, London N17

Created by Grant // 1 thread

The following proposal has been received from Haringey traffic engineers. Please add your comments to the discussion thread to inform our response: 'We have received complaints from residents and previous ward councillors that Higham Road and Wilmot Road often suffers from severe congestion caused by the narrow width of these roads, which form part of the W4 bus route. In order to improve general traffic flow and the reliability of the W4 bus service, we propose to convert sections of these roads to one-way working, except cycles. The key measures are listed below: - Convert Higham Road from Downhills Park Road to its junction with Hastings Road to one-way working, in a northbound direction, except for cycles. - Convert Wilmot Road from its junction at Hastings Road to Pendennis Road to one-way working in a southbound direction, except for cycles.

  • traffic island crossing Clifton Moor Gate cycle route with poor visibility

Created by becm // 1 thread

When crossing Clifton Moor Gate from George Cayley Drive towards Water Lane and waiting on the traffic Island in the middle of the road, if the traffic waiting to turn right into Water Lane is backed up to the Island there is no visibility of vehicles travelling up Clifton Moor Gate. I have had 2 near misses now and an going to stop using this crossing which will mean cycling on the main roads and not using the cycle lane.

  • 18/1195/REM Eddington - 186 residential units in 'cycle friendly building'

Created by Matthew // 1 thread

Transport statement: 4.7 At surface level, a total of 54 covered cycle parking spaces, including 6 off-gauge spaces for trailers, for use by residents are provided in three locations adjacent to Blocks B, C and D. Additionally, 50 visitor spaces will be provided in various locations adjacent to Turing Way. 4.8 A dedicated cycle lane along the access ramp will provide direct access to the basement level cycle parking facilities. A total of 244 cycle parking spaces for residents will be provided within the basement alongside with 14 off-gauge spaces. 4.9 The total of 348 cycle parking spaces for residents and provision for visitor parking is significantly over the standards outlined in the North West Cambridge AAP. 4.10 Apartments are also sized to incorporate cycle storage over and above those specific facilities provided at the ground floor and basement levels and provide storage space for an additional 195 cycles. Within the building, design features such as widened corridors and relaxed corners will facilitate use of the cycle storage within apartments. 4.11 The lifts from the basement level to each floors for the apartments will be dimensioned at 1.85 metres by 1.4 metres to accommodate cycles. Cycle washing facilities will also be provided within the basement. 4.15 A total of 187 car parking spaces are proposed for the use of future residents. Initial thoughts: Interesting effort and the developers gave a presentation for some of us a while back, at NW Cambridge site. The row of diagonal cycle parking in the basement is flawed: they got the spacing right but forgot to account correctly for the length of cycles, which will stick out into the swept path of cars parking. It's unclear how the car ramp to the basement will be controlled, since it is a single lane wide, which means that drivers will need to be held at a red signal in the circulation lane. Meanwhile people cycling can flow up and down the ramp (haven't measured width yet) but would be crossing over the car lane. Also have not yet found the slope of the ramp, though it looks fairly long. The dimensions of the lift at 1.85m long and 1.4m wide may accommodate a traditional bicycle (just barely, in terms of length). Unlikely to accommodate a larger cycle, which can be assumed to be up to 1.2m in width and 2-2.3m in length for a cargo cycle (2.8m in length for a bike with a trailer), according to IAN 195/16. I think the car parking is excessive for what is supposed to be a 'sustainable neighbourhood' with cycleways, and this is the closest building to the Park & Ride as well, enjoying easy access to both the U and P&R buses. Note: this building is market apartments, so it is probably fair to assume somewhat higher car ownership rates than the University student and staff buildings, but 1:1 is excessive. .. Reserved Matters application pursuant to application 13/1402/S73 for construction of 186 residential units, access road, cycle parking, car parking, landscaping, utilities and associated ancillary structures. • Liberton Brae junction

Created by FrenchyF // 0 threads

Add pedestrian crossings to Kirk Brae, Blackford Glen Road and Mayfield Road. Extend ASL on Mayfield Road ~3m forward, so that cyclists start on the flat. Advanced green lights for cyclists. Painted ("car", not cycle) lanes through the junction. A cycle lane from Liberton Brae to Mayfield Road should be considered. Allow left turns for cyclists from Kirk Brae and Mayfield Road. Single yellow lines on Mayfield Road should apply till at least 9:30am (currently 9:15am). Braefoot Terrace should have double yellow lines, single yellow kerb flashes. No loading should apply till at least 9:30am. Liberton Brae should have double yellow lines and single yellow kerb flashes northbound, at least as far as Alnwickhill Road. Southbound, there should be at least single yellow lines and kerb flashes - ideally double yellows. Replace the traffic island near the southernmost entrance to KB with a proper pedestrian crossing. Currently, if you are only able to filter to the end of the southbound bike lane on Mayfield Road, you almost certainly don't get through the junction at the next green light. The bike lane should continue past the pub, at least. Ban motorised traffic going from Mayfield Road to Kirk Brae? Too radical?
