  • Planning Application to establish a parcel distribution centre in Spring Place,

Created by George Coulouris // 1 thread

Change of use from industrial (Class B2) to flexible industrial (Class B2)/ storage or distribution (Class B8)/ light industrial (Class E),

If this is approved it will result in a continual flow of vans all day on Holmes Road and Grafton Road, both of which are already overloaded with traffic and have primary schools on them. Grafton Road is part of a Cycling Quiet Way between Camden Town and Highgate also connecting to Hampstead Heath (Constantine Road) and it is planned to upgrade this route to be part of cycleway C6

We intend to submit an objection to the application and to coordinate our response with Inkerman Area Residents Association.

Below is a first draft for our response. Please comment and suggest further points for inclusion.

  • Mapping out Cycling Infrastructure Proposals for Hammersmith and Fulham

Created by Casey // 1 thread

In order to create a safe cycling and active transport environment we need to point out what we need, where.

In line with the policy announcement from Grant Shapps MP changes should be urgent and immediate so this is a space to plan, map them out and look at detail. We have the benefit of this being a forum where we have access to a lot of expertise in technical detail so feel free to suggest, upload photos, discuss, wish.

  • Wood Vale

    Anon // 1 thread

    Overview

We would like your views on highways improvements on Wood Vale.

Residents have told us that they would like to see reduced speeds and less through traffic on Wood Vale so we have put together a proposal to tackle these issues that we would now like your feedback on.  We would especially like to know if you think the designs could be improved or if we have missed any opportunities.

    The measures will include:

    • New raised tables (Flat topped speed humps) - these encourage drivers to slow down and maintain a constant speed.
    • Removing existing speed cushions and islands - these were not effective enough at reducing speeds, and presented dangers to cyclists.
    • Introducing a new priority working system - this allows only one vehicle through at a time and aims to discourage vehicles using Wood Vale to access Lordship Lane and the South Circular Road.

As part of these works we will also be taking the opportunity to refurbish the footway along the road where it is needed.

Separately from this consultation, please note that Melford Road carriageway resurfacing has been reprogrammed for the 16th of January. Separate notification will be issued for this work closer to the scheduled implementation date.

Let us know what you think by filling in the online survey. Drawings can be viewed in the additional documents section.

  • Barry Road Road traffic calming & Southwark Spine route consultation

Created by Luce // 1 thread

    Overview
Southwark became a 20mph borough in 2015. However, a review of average speeds has shown that in some areas speeds are much higher than this. On Barry Road average speeds exceed 24mph, with many vehicles exceeding 30mph. Residents have told us that these speeds can make the road dangerous for pedestrians and other road users. We have a responsibility to take action to ensure that legal speed limits are observed and protect the welfare of all road users.

Our review of Barry Road concluded that speeds remained below 24mph between Upland Road and Peckham Rye, therefore this scheme only looks to address high speeds between Goodrich Road and Upland Road.

Following TfL's Healthy Street guidelines, we have proposed a series of changes to the road which we think will bring speeds down to a more acceptable level and make the street a safer and more accessible environment for all. We are conducting this consultation to find your views on the measures we are proposing and whether there are additional actions we could take.

Additionally, it has been proposed to alter the route of the planned Southwark Spine cycle route. This is intended to create a safe route for cyclists of all abilities. The route will now run along Goodrich Road and down the southern section of Barry Road, linking with the cycle quietway from Peckham Rye to Wimbledon.

We are at the early stage of planning this, and would like your views on how we can make this section safe and accessible for all road users.

    Why We Are Consulting
Local people are the experts on their area. We want to know what you think about these proposals, whether there are things we haven't considered or opportunities to make the plans even better.

The questionnaire below includes a 'healthy streets' section, where we ask for a snapshot of conditions on Barry Road right now. This will help us assess your priorities, and also whether the changes we make achieve meaningful improvements for local people.

Other sections consider the South (where the Southwark Spine is proposed to run), Middle and North parts of the road, so you can offer detailed comments on the proposals that affect you, if you wish.

Please review the plans below before responding, and take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions.

Your data will be anonymised and only used by the Highways team for the purpose described above. However, there is an option to provide us with an email address if you would like feedback on the outcomes from this survey, and to receive information about other Highways surveys and consultations in your area.

  • Moreland Street traffic calming

    Created by k9 // 1 thread

Islington is proposing a small chicane and the removal of some parking in front of the Moreland Street Primary School. We were informed that they were looking at changes to this street in 2017, but they have asked us for a response to plans in 24 hours.

  • Quieter Neighbourhoods Consultation - Fox Lane Area

    Hamish F // 0 threads

Enfield Council are consulting on these Quieter Neighbourhood treatments for the Fox Lane area. (which includes the Lakes Estate). They include "encouragement" of a 20mph zone supported by enhanced signage using large planter boxes, road narrowing, continuous footways, road humps, "fake road humps" (!), and points no entry.

    Plus a school street.

This proposal is interesting in that the location of the (many) planter boxes remains flexible and is an opportunity for a trial to see what works, or use additional boxes.

  • Quieter Neighbourhoods Consultation - Fernleigh Road Area

    Hamish F // 1 thread

Enfield Council are consulting on these Quieter Neighbourhood treatments for the Fernleigh Road area. They include a 20mph zone supported by road narrowing and road humps, together with other measures to discourage rat-runs: no-left-turns, one way streets and point no entry.

This residential area is currently affected by through-traffic seeking to avoid sets of traffic lights at Green Lanes/Bourne Hill and Green Lanes/Station Road.

  • Consultation on Quieter Neighbourhood for Connaught Gdns N13

Created by Clare Rogers // 1 thread

Enfield Council are consulting on these Quieter Neighbourhood treatments for the Connaught Gardens residential area. They include one-way streets with contraflow for bikes, 'point no-entries', sinusoidal speed humps and width restrictions to filter out HGVs.

The measures are based on residents' workshops which took place in 2013/14, a more recent perception survey and traffic surveys.

Hazelwood Lane, Connaught Gardens and Callard Ave form the main rat run through the area between the A105, Hedge Lane and the A406. No measures are being proposed for these streets. Hazelwood School is on Hazelwood Lane and residents report chaos at school run times, with conflict between parents trying to drive past each other on this narrow road, and sometimes mounting the pavement. The school operates a 'drop, wave and go' policy - children are dropped from the car and the parent drives off without parking, while teachers escort the children into the school.

  • Elkstone Road Traffic Calming - LTP3 2017/18

    Ian S // 1 thread

To improve the layout of Elkstone Road and implement traffic calming measures to reduce Pauslgrove Traffic Calming speeds of traffic travelling through the area from its junction with Leominster Road to its junction with Allaway Avenue.

These would consist of reducing the carriageway width and implementing speed cushions and raised tables.

  • The Reach Free School to Mill End and Maple Cross, Hertfordshire

Created by Peter Loader // 1 thread

The Reach Free School plans to move to a permanent site in Mill End, Rickmansworth, Herts. There has been a public exhibition of the draft proposals so that the Education Funding Agency can gather feedback before it submits a planning application to Three Rivers District Council. At the exhibition, the draft cycling/walking routes linking the school to Mill End and Maple Cross seemed to be unsatisfactory and to conflict with the adopted Three Rivers Local Plan.

  • Harmston Rise failure to stop

Created by Trothben // 1 thread

As discussed at pedals meetings I confidently step out onto pedestrian crossings...
I keep it in mind that the car may not stop...

Really need to challenge powers that be over this one.
Either its enforceable and the driver needs to be cautioned by NP suggest Driving with due care and attention.
NCC need to get their act together with the level side road treatments.

Be that rumble strips better approach warnings plastic wands to tighten the space.

silver lining: video shows the driver is riding the brakes around the whole corner through the crossing. He is already braking when I enter the challenge. shows the feeder speed of 40mph is too high.

Suggested action: enter formal notice (for legal purposes) to NCC regarding inherent danger to vulnerable road users at side road treatments suggest it will apply to all 42 prosed and actual sites.

  • Heatherly Drive

Created by Trothben // 1 thread

    see youtube video.

No threat to me in this instance but shows poor driving and worse engineering to allow a car to take the corner in 3rd gear and slink onto the wrong side. See similar issue with parking transit van. need for some bollards/ traffic management.

  • Usk Bridge traffic calming and pedestrian crossings

Created by Fraser Stephens // 1 thread

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

If a foot/cycle bridge is not going to happen in the medium term, then how about some traffic calming measures to reduce driver's speed expectations over the bridge? Drivers who have just come of a dual carriage way at 70mph+ or have been zooming along the A40 at 60mph+ are suddenly sharing space with cyclists having had little warning that this is about to happen.

We suggest deploying traffic calming measures, such as marked cycle ways, belisha beacon crossings (much needed anyway!) and signage making it clear that care is required. If the speed limit was clearly lower, many drivers will not be so aggressively trying to overtake cyclists.

  • Kings Avenue/Milner Street rat run.

Created by Kevin Ablitt // 1 thread

Motorised vehicles currently use the rat run through Milner Street to avoid the fraffic lights at Grove Lane/ St Helens St.
This is part of NCN 41 , any extra traffic passing through here detracts from the cycling experience and is negative for residents.
Cyclist comments are needed now !
