  • No cycle parking at Sainsbury's

Created by Matthew Phillips // 1 thread

There is no cycle parking provided at the Sainsbury's on the A167 (former Pot and Glass).

Current County Durham policy requires 1 space per 5 FTE staff, and a minimum of two spaces for users, with an additional space for every 400 sq.m over 100 sq.m.

So I reckon it should have at least four. Were the policies in force at the time of the planning application for change of use? The previous policy was different, but stipulated a minimum of 4 spaces.

Was there a planning application, which omitted to enforce this requirement, or was it permitted development?

  • Access to Tesco by bike

Created by Matthew Phillips // 1 thread

Access to Tesco by bike could be improved in various ways. The main picture shows the view from close to the entrance to the supermarket. The cycle parking is at the far end of the building near the Belisha beacon. Cycle parking should be located as close to the entrance to the building as possible, and should certainly be obvious and easy to find from there.

I will attach some other photos showing things which could be improved.

  • Leeds Station South Entrance - Request for cycle parking delay

    Created by M Stanley // 1 thread

    "Condition 14 currently states:
Prior to the opening of the Station Entrance to the public, details of facilities to be provided for the parking of up to 20 cycles, to be used by members of the public, shall be submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority. The details shall include the location and method of securing cycles. The approved facilities shall then be provided prior to the building being brought into use and, thereafter, retained in full working order, in accordance with the approved details or any subsequent revisions that have been submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority.
The revised condition proposed is as below (additional/altered wording in red):
No later than three months after the opening of the Station Entrance to the public, details of facilities to be provided for the parking of up to 20 cycles, to be used by members of the public, shall be submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority. The details shall
include the location and method of securing cycles. The approved facilities shall then be provided no later than six months after the building being brought into use and, thereafter, retained in full working order, in accordance with the approved details or any subsequent revisions that have been submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority.
The provision of cycle facilities is linked to the works covered by condition 22 (enhancement to arches on Dark Neville Street) and is critically linked in terms of funding availability. As the funding route is yet to be confirmed we seek a small amendment to the delivery of both the design and implementation of the installation of cycle facilities. "

  • 15/0519/OUT: 27 homes off Histon Rd

Created by Rohan Wilson // 1 thread

    See p26 of D+A Statement.
It's "bikes and bins", with cycles shown in garden sheds or to the rear of tandem car parking, ie inaccessible. The developer claims high sustainability and to favour walking and cycling. This being outline application an objection might produce improvement.

  • Roehampton Gate Cafe

Created by timlennon // 0 threads

Comment from RCC correspondence: The only question to ask is: What would the Dutch do? There is far too much unrestricted tarmac area for vehicles, and the Mini-roundabout does not slow down cars sufficiently. Restricting the space for cars so as to slow them down, and increasing the protected space for cyclists and pedestrians is a must. But, why stop at Richmond Hill? The Roehampton Gate is also dangerous. Maybe make the park access-only for motor vehicles, so you can only get to the nearest car park. That could easily be achieved by placing no entry and right/left turn only signs ( except cycles) around the park, so that you would simply have to pick the appropriate entrance to visit a specific area of the park, or even better, just park and walk. That would make it safer by reducing a lot of the through traffic that makes it dangerous. I'd also like it to be closed to motor vehicles on Saturday mornings between 8 and 12 noon, but you can't have everything. One final thought. The car park at the Roehampton Cafe is dangerous on a Saturday morning. So many cyclists and cars pushing through. The space in front of the cafe is especially dangerous with lots of excited kids on hire bikes . That space was recently blocked off to cars whilst the cafe was refurbished, but alas it's now been re-opened. Should have kept it shut for safety. Plus, it could be used for bike parking to ease the pressure on space outside the cafe. Unfortunately, the Royal Parks don't seem to have a clue.

  • Consultation on Cobden Junction

Created by Jean Dollimore // 5 threads

Camden Council proposes major improvements to Cobden junction – the junction of Camden High Street with Crowndale Road and Hampstead Road at its southern end.

    They propose the following measures:

    - eliminate the unnecessary northbound road on the east side of the island

    - gain extra footway space on the east side of the road (uses to include cycle parking, trees, seating)

    - widen the footway outside Mornington Crescent Station

    - safer, quicker and simpler pedestrian crossings

    - improved link for cyclists to the Mornington Crescent quiet route (from Arlington Road).

    - new ASL boxes with lead-in lanes on the approach to the junction from Eversholt Street, Crowndale Road and Hampstead Road.

    - re-site the statue of Richard Cobden and the war memorial

Proposal for contraflow cycling on Crowndale Road:

A few months ago, we were shown designs for a contraflow on Crowndale Road between Hampstead Road and Bayham Street with some junction changes at the latter to accommodate it. Unfortunately, this was rejected by TfL on the grounds that it would delay buses. This consultation notes that the layout has been designed to accommodate the contraflow at a future date.

This consultation also says that in addition, alternative options for providing a west to east link are being explored at both Delancey Street / Pratt Street and Oakley Square. We need to encourage Camden to pursue these essential links. In the case of the latter, there is an urgent need to allow cyclists to make right turn right into Hampstead road from the southern end of Mornington Crescent.
