    East Sydenham is changing

    A key target of both the Mayor of London and the London Borough of Lewisham’s Transport Strategy is for 80% of all journeys in London to be made by sustainable means of transport (walking, cycling and public transport) by 2041. To achieve this, we have to create street environments where traffic is reduced, and where vulnerable road users, including children and the elderly, feel more comfortable making journeys on foot or by bike.

    Lewisham & Lee Green is changing

    How would you like to change Lewisham & Lee Green to make the area healthier, greener and more pleasant to live in?

    The Healthy Neighbourhoods Programme will help make Lewisham’s diverse communities greener, healthier and more attractive places to live, work, play and do business. By restricting the through traffic that uses residential streets to avoid main roads, we will reduce congestion in your neighbourhood, improve air quality and make the local area more pleasant to walk and cycle through.

    During the first stage of the programme, local residents will be able to access local traffic data, share their views on traffic issues and help identify schemes to address them, on this website and at a series of public events and workshops.

    During the second stage, proposed traffic management measures will be trialled for 6-18 months, so that we can monitor their impact, gather local opinion and assess whether to make any changes permanent

  • Stoke Newington/CS1 modal filters

    The successful modal filtering of Wordsworth Road has displaced rat-running drivers to streets to the north of the current modal filters and south of Stoke Newington Church Street. Hackney Council are suggesting either modal filters to prevent rat-running entirely in these streets (Option A), or partial filters (Option B).

  • TMP 7196 - North-South City Centre Cycle Route, Nottingham

    Nottingham City Council is looking to encourage the growth of new cycle users within the City,
    thus giving a viable alternative to motor vehicles and encouraging a healthier lifestyle for all
    citizens. As part of this vision it is proposed to expand the City’s cycle facilities by providing
    contra-flow cycle lanes on parts of the carriageways of Friar Lane, Park Row and The Ropewalk,
    allowing safe passage for city bound cyclists travelling from the north-west of the city centre.
    These are quiet, low trafficked streets ideal for cycling. However, the current restrictions prohibit
    cycling in the opposite direction of the one way, therefore compelling cyclists to travel on less
    appropriate routes.
    Furthermore, a minor reduction of the Pay & Display parking bays immediately to the south-east
    of The Ropewalk/Oxford Street junction will be necessary to accommodate the proposed re-
    construction works to that junction.

    Before proceeding further with these proposals and in accordance with statutory procedures and
    policies, I now wish to consider your views regarding this matter. Whilst it may not be possible to
    agree to all your suggestions, they will be incorporated into the proposals whenever appropriate
    and economically feasible.
