  • King's Lynn Transport Interchange

Created by MJR // 2 threads

Some of (the last of?) the s106 money from two out-of-town big box supermarkets is being used to remodel the connections between the bus and rail stations. National Route 1 runs through this area and the bus station may also be Lynn's biggest cycle park, so there's quite a lot of potential for this to do good - or to do harm.

  • Link to Gilwern Velo Park

Created by Fraser Stephens // 0 threads

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

The obvious cycle route to get to Gilwern Velo Park from Abergavenny is to join the canal towpath at Govilon. On arriving in Gilwern, the cyclist is faces with several issues: Poor surface of the canal path along Gilwern Wharf, steep access down from the canal path. No crossing point on Abergavenny road (without cycling all the way into Gilwern) and then a narrow de-restricted lane with steep sides and no verge leading to the turn into the outdoor centre. We would like to see many improvements made to allow safe access as part of the velo park scheme.

  • Neville Hall Hospital access

Apparently a route round NH Hospital was proposed once many years. There are many opportunities for the hospital to improve cycle (and foot) access.

  • A4143 Cyclepath

Created by Fraser Stephens // 0 threads

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

The A4143 heading up towards the Hospital is plenty wide enough for a dedicated cycle path on one side or the other (we suggest the west side). This is often a busy and fast road. (Note this this would also solve the safe cycle access to the climbing wall and softplay.)

  • Llanfoist share-use cyclepath proposal

Created by Fraser Stephens // 0 threads

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

A key link for route 46 users, as well as people getting to/from Llanfoist village hall, is the strip of pavement on the north side of Merthyr Road. We believe there could be the width to allow this to be widened into a share-pavement allowing cyclists to avoid crossing the road twice in the space of a few hundred metres.

  • Waitrose: missed opportunities for cyclists

Created by Fraser Stephens // 0 threads

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

    1) More clear directions from Waitrose to the cyclepaths.

    2) Many missed opportunities at Waitrose to encourage cycling:

    a) Cycle stands often blocked with trolleys and equipment from the "garden" section.
    b) No easy pedestrian/cycle access direct to Route 46 (west) when it would be easy to provide one.
    c) anti-trolley bumps on main road in do have a flat path for cyclists, but they are not exactly friendly. How about actually having a cycle lane in and around the site?

  • Remove steps on ramp down from Union Road footbridge to A4143

Created by Fraser Stephens // 0 threads

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

There are relatively shallow paths that run from both ends of the bridge down to the A4143, but both have shallow steps that stop them being useful to cyclists. This means that people heading out of the hospital wanting to cycle down the A4143 towards Llanfoist have to cross the road with the traffic, rather than the safer alternative of crossing the bridge and coming down the ramp.

Note that openstreetmap's map of this is incorrect. I'll submit a correction (11-04-2014)

  • Contraflow cycle path on Union Road East

Created by Fraser Stephens // 0 threads

    RAISED AT PUBLIC MEETING 10-04-2014

Part of Union Road East is one-way, so cyclists heading from the hospital into town have to cycle 3 sides of an undulating square to reach Tudor Street. A contraflow cycle lane would solve this and encourage cycling.

  • Cavendish Way/St Albans Road West, Hatfield

Created by Chris Whitehouse // 0 threads

This refers to the shared cyclepath/footway across St Albans Road West at the junction with Cavendish Way.

There is a flower bed on the east side of this crossing which projects into the line of the crossing. There is also a cyclepath/footway sign on a short post in the flower bed.

    http://goo.gl/maps/9T3AO

At night it is very easy to take a line which sends you into the flowerbed, particularly if crossing quickly to avoid traffic exiting from St Albans Road West. It's not hard in daytime too if there is pedestrian traffic.

Please fill in and resurface a short section of flowerbed and resite the sign.

  • Cycle to school path: St Michaels' footpath

Created by Jack Thurston // 0 threads

We want widen and redesignate this footpath as a safe, dual use, route, especially to enable children to ride to school safely. This would allow cyclists to avoid a stretch of the Brecon Road and Pen-y-Pound, which are both fast and hostile roads.

  • Blocked dropped kerb

    Created by Paul L // 0 threads

The cycle route from Ranelaugh Drive towards Isleworth involves crossing the footway. A dropped kerb has been provided (but no other markings) but this is frequently blocked by parked cars. A solution would be to place a bollard either side of the dropped section.

  • Missing link, West End Rd to Waterfront

Created by Kevin Ablitt // 1 thread

As you can see in the photo there is a shared use path on river side of West End Rd just east of Bobby Robson bridge. But then where ? How far does it go ? It is certainly no good if you want to cross Princes Street- you cant unless you go up to the Burrel Road end of the bridge. And anyway once you get over Princes Street along Commercial Road and Grafton Way it is a narrow footpath which is not shared use.
It would be good to connect Bobby Robson Bridge and the Waterfront.
Directly and not by switching over to the other path and then over two toucans. Perhaps even a wide cycle crossing of the 4 lanes of Stoke St ? That would be brilliant.

  • Pavement cycling stops just before cycle shop

Created by Shaun McDonald // 0 threads

The legal pavement cycling is suddenly not allowed 3 car lengths before a cycle shop near this junction which has toucan crossings and cycle paths on all other sides of it. Why can't it be continued to the bike shop for a safe cycle route to/from the junction away from traffic?

  • Terrible surface condition on cycle path forming part of NCN 20

Created by DaveE // 0 threads

The condition of the cyclepath is so bad that a road bike with narrow tyres cannot be comfortably or safely ridden along the cycle side of the segregared path. There are numerous potholes of more than 25mm depth and quite a bit of loose gravel besides a generally very rough surface. The surface is more pothole than surface in places! It is even bad for mountain bikes and especially bad for small wheeled bicycles such as folding bicycles. This is forcing cyclists to use the pedestrian side of the path, with the potential for safety issues and confrontation. Last seen mid July 2013.

  • Lack of safe room for cycles, terrible road surface

Created by DavidTheScientist // 1 thread

While some painted "cycle lane" does exist northbound, there is woefully little provision for cyclists considering the huge number that use this section of road each day, a large number of whom are those who work at the General Hospital and other nearby health centres. Southbound cyclists have no real provision of space at all, save a graduated stopline, where cars turning right often try to pass right-turning cycles on the inside. Dale road itself is extremely narrow by winchester road, with almost no pavement space for pedestrians.
Cyclists heading northbound on Winchester road must beat traffic off the line at Dale road to get to the painted centre of Winchester road. North of the traffic light at The Range, the cycle lane is almost non-existent, placing cyclists between 2 lanes of heavy traffic, and cyclists have to stop and wait in this dangerous area in order to turn right onto Wilton road. Furthermore, the road surface, especially at this part of Winchester road, is currently deplorable.

  • Dangerous cycle lanes in Ipswich Town Centre

Created by Andrea // 3 threads

In Museum Street and Upper Brook Street/Northgate Street it is very dangerous to cycle. Both roads are very narrow, have lots of buses pass through and there are contraflow cycle paths. On those you are very close to the buses (both directions) even if you wait on the pavements to let them through because you are worried about accidents. Can cyclepaths go through Elm Street, Tower Street or Tower Rampart instead?
