  • New cycle racks at cambridge station

Created by Colin Rosenstiel // 1 thread

Apart from the miserable remote location, has anyone else been having issues with the new exclusively double stack cycle parking?

    1. My bike, a pretty normal size town bike, won't fit on the lower level because the basket won't fit under the beam mounting the upper level of the rack
    2. Twice my bike has fallen out when removing it from the upper level. The wheel, also a standard size, isn't held firmly enough in the sliding rack when unlocked. The frist time it fell on me, causing minor injuries
    3. The level of maintenance is abysmal, with obvious work required being left undone for weeks. The first instance of my bike falling out was a rack that wouldn't slide in so I was removing my bike to put elsewhere. Another time the bolts hoding a rack in had come off so the frame was loose and unusable. There are two frames on the side by the back of the racks which need refixing and have done as long as the racks have been where they now are
    4. Why has the roadway got those obstructive plastic barriers all the way along, making access to the cycle parking very awkward? Such barriers are not placed between carriageway and pavements elsewhere

  • Roundabout by Radnor Gardens

I think I’m correct in saying that several months ago the kerb at the junction of Strawberry Vale and Waldegrave Road was realigned with the result that the cycle lane that had previously continued up to the stop line was cut short at the point where the kerb was realigned. Photo 1341 -1 shows this quite clearly. I cycle along this road fairly frequently and had recognised this as a dangerous point for a cyclist but did nothing about it other than taking care. On Monday however my alertness paid off as a large lorry overtook me about 8 – 9 metres back from the stop line. Had I not braked hard it would have undoubtedly have hit me. The alignment of the kerb creates a pinch point which a cyclist is funnelled into without any warning.

It appears to me that the needs of cyclists have been ignored in the redesign of this junction and that a road safety hazard has been created.

  • Parkway approach to Britannia Junction too narrow

Created by Jean Dollimore // 0 threads

email receivedr: I thought I'd get in contact about the new Parkway junction with Camden High Street. I'm sure you have to use this route while riding through Camden at times and are therefore probably aware of the changes that have been made recently. Both motorists (in particular) and cyclists have suffered huge inconvenience over the last few months as the number of lanes have been halved at the bottom of Parkway where it meets Camden High Street. However, now it appears to be completed and I just cannot believe how poor the finished result is. Not only do the changes appear to have turned Parkway into a giant car park making it difficult and dangerous to navigate on a bike but the junction at the bottom has absolutely no room for cyclists to move at the side of the traffic and is an accident waiting to happen.

I cannot believe that such an important route has completely ignored the plight of cyclists at this time when cycling in the Capital is at an all time high. If you could shed any light on what is going on here and perhaps advise who I could write to at TFL or Camden Council about this, I would be most grateful.
