  • Roadworks: Gloucester Gate

    From January through June 2019, Gloucester Gate will be closed to all traffic including cycles. It is possible to get through on the footway (by dismounting). We are trying to get a better solution in place but in the meantime the only other options are to use Albany Street and Chester Gate (southbound) or Prince Albert Road and Macclesfield Bridge (westbound).

    Update 7/6/19: Gloucester Gate has now re-opened to two-way traffic. So cyclists can now enter and leave Regents Park here, but, unfortunately, so can drivers.

  • Consultation on Cycling Improvements on Arlington Road

    Arlington Road runs parallel to Camden High Street on the west side and it forms part of a route that we once named as LCN 6a. See on map above where the original route continues south via Mornington Crescent and Hampstead Road.

    Unfortunately the measures proposed are very disappointing:
    - all that is offered is the removal of car parking on the southern approach to the Parkway junction to accommodate queueing traffic.

  • Permanent Timed Road Close on Macklin Street (St Joseph’s Primary School)

    This consultation proposes to make permanent the first Healthy Streets scheme in Camden, which is at St Joseph’s School in Macklin Street, Covent Garden.

    An experimental timed closure was implemented in July 2016 through the use of street signage reinforced by a retractable bollard managed by school staff.  

    Camden notes that since the trial was introduced, the number of parents driving their children to school has reduced; and the school and some of its parents have also reported that they feel safer walking with their children to and from school.

  • Consultation on: HS2 Phase 1 environmental statement | Camden Town and HS1 Link

    HS2 are consulting on a report on the environmental impact caused by the link following the Overground route between HS1 (on York Way near St Pancras station) and where it joins the mainline near to Adelaide Road.
    They will be working for a period of seven years, starting in 2017, altering or rebuilding all the bridges and adding track to the viaducts
    The main depot is on Camley Street at the foot of the Agar-Camley Link, another depot is at junction of Royal College Street and Camden Road.

  • Consultation: Euston Station Area Planning Principles

    Camden are consulting on the long-term future of the area around Euston station area:
    "Euston station is changing, with HS2 Ltd preparing for construction, and Network Rail, Crossrail 2 and Transport for London also thinking about how to design the station.
    We are preparing a plan for development in the Euston station and tracks area with the Greater London Authority and Transport for London, which will both inform, and be informed by, emerging designs for the stations at Euston."

    The perspective is long-term, but the timeline (http://www.eustonareaplan.info/timeline/) calls for the finalisation of a Planning Brief by Spring 2018. This initial consultation is on the design principles. It will inform a detailed brief that will be the subject of further consultation in early 2018 and finalised in summer 2018.

    We (Camden Cycling Campaign) intend to submit a response to this initial consultation. Please take a look at the Key Principles - Euston Station Area Planning Brief 220517.pdf document and make your suggestions for ensuring that the area will become a much better cycling environment.

  • Queen's Crescent Motor Traffic Free Environment Trial

    The proposals will trial a motor traffic-free environment that reduces traffic volumes and speeds, supports the existing market and local businesses, and allows more space for social distancing, walking, and cycling. The proposals also include measures at the junction of Queen’s Crescent and Grafton Road to prevent rat running traffic from using Grafton Road and Vicar’s Road and create a safer and quieter environment for residents in that area.

    Camden have announced a consultation trial closures of Queen's Crescent (the market area) and Grafton Road. The resulting reduction in motor traffic will improve cycling conditions massively on Grafton Road in particular and in adjacent streets to a lesser extent. This, in conjunction with this scheme including the closure of Anglers Lane (decision to go ahead) should result in a sizeable LTN in all but name.

  • Don't pedestrianise Fitzrovia - make it access only

    Westminster council are doing two important things at the moment. There is a consultation on "Oxford Street District" here: https://osd.london

    The other thing WCC are doing is going to close Riding House Street with the Camden boundary at the junction of Cleveland Street by installing bollards across the road. The street has already been closed for over a year and it has had no negative impact. Camden have already done this at Fitzroy Square and Warren Street and it has been very positive. We need to do more of the same.

    The issue of through traffic -- including Torrington Place -- needs to be dealt with as a matter of urgency. All areas of Fitzrovia are above the legal limit for NO2, except for Crabtree Fields open space. (Sample readings: 55 µg/m3 - legal limit is 40 µg/m3. NO2 pollution on Oxford Street east is 66 µg/m3 & on Euston Road it is 84 µg/m3.)

    Camden has so far refused to entertain the two road closures I have suggested - Torrington Place and Goodge Place.

    I am now going to suggest the following road closures to Camden and Westminster to make Fitzrovia "access only".

    Close Goodge Street at Westminster boundary at junction with Goodge Place; close New Cavendish Street at the junction with Cleveland Street, and finally close Clipstone Street at the junction with Cleveland Street (this would also require Cleveland Street to be one-way north bound).

    I believe it will not impact on access to all streets by motor vehicles for deliveries and drop-offs, etc. But it will eliminate entirely motor through traffic across the Camden/Westminster border and mitigate the effect of Gower Street northbound traffic turning into Torrington Place. This would also cut down on traffic along Grafton Way which also a victim of WEP.

  • Hatton Garden Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan

    This Hatton Garden Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Strategy contains a fascinating study of the buildings and streetscapes in the Hatton Garden area.

    It contains a brief section on "Movement" in Sections 5.29-5.32 on page 58 and a figure on page 59. Deals with motor vehicles, pedestrians and buses but it forgets cycles.

    "Opportunities for enhancement". P 81 briefly outlines "Traffic and movement: strengths, weaknesses and opportunities."
    This should recognise the potential contribution of cycling

    New and improved cycle routes are shown on a map on page 83 (reproduced in this issue's image).They recognise the following:
    - Theobalds- Clerkenwell Road alignment
    - Rosebery Avenue
    - Hatton Garden

    Also should include at least:
    -The CS6 alignments (being built this year)
    - Grays Inn Road as a GRID link
    - permeability links e.g. through Back Hill/Eyre Street Hill to Hatton Garden and via Laystall Street

  • Healthy School Streets: Acland Burghley School; Proposed Walking, Cycling and Ro

    Students of Acland Burghley use the gate on Burghley Road in the morning; a majority of these who walk to school arrive from Dartmouth Park Hill and Tufnell Park junction. In the afternoon, students leave by a gate on Ingestre Road, from where most of them make their way through Burghley Road to Dartmouth Park Hill and Tufnell Park junction.

    This set of proposals is related to creating a Healthy School Street outside Acland Burghley School. This will prohibit motor vehicles from entering the section of Burghley Road between Dartmouth Park Hill and Oakford Road during school term time, Monday – Friday between 8:00-9:00am and 3:00-4:00pm.

    The restriction will be enforced through the provision of signs and by ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras located at each end of the restricted area. (So there's no need to have a one-way street)

    The following other supporting measures are proposed:

    • Widen the eastern footway on the north side of Ingestre Road by the school gate – moving four parking bays to the other side of the road. (See Plan C)

    • Move a Car Club bay from the restricted area in Burghley Road into a location in Oakford Road. (See Plan A and B)

    • Retain the existing width restriction in Burghley Road and raise the road to footway level. (See Plan C)

    • widen the footway on both sides by the school gate, paint double yellow lines; and resite the cycle strands the width restriction Burghley Road.

  • Consultation on St Mark’s Square Proposed Pedestrian and Cycling Improvements

    This consultation offers very-long-campaigned for two-way cycling in St Marks Square to complete the 6-year old scheme in Princess Road.

    Camden proposes to take out one of the three motor traffic lanes and replace it with a northbound contraflow cycle lane. The parking will be moved from the west side of the road and replaced as a floating parking bay outside the contraflow cycle lane – with a buffer to separate the cars from the cycle lane.

    They also propose a right turn pocket on Prince Albert Road to facilitate right turns into the contraflow cycle lane.

    For pedestrians, Camden proposes an extra green-man crossing so that there will be one on each of the three arms.

  • Earlham Street West – proposed public realm improvements

    Earlham Street runs one way westbound between Seven Dials and Shaftesbury Avenue.

    In 2014, Earlham Street was closed to motor vehicles at the junction with Shaftesbury Avenue.

    The stated objective include the following:

    - create a safer and more attractive connection for pedestrians and cyclists to neighbouring areas, especially Soho and St Giles

    The proposed changes include the following:

    - between Shaftesbury Avenue and Tower Street, the entire road width at footway level with dropped kerbs to allow a cycle connection to Shaftesbury. They don’t say whether the existing bollards will remain in place.

    - between Tower Street and Seven Dials, narrow the road from 6.5 to 3m, move parking to other side of Seven Dials, widen footways.
    - market stalls on south side of street with loading before and after trading times

  • Consultation: Tufnell Park junction revisions

    The proposals for this junction includes the following major changes:



    1. Widening the footway surrounding the entrance to the underground station, both on Tufnell Park Road and Brecknock Road, as well as the western footway of Dartmouth Park Hill (near Burghley Road where the school pupils congregate after school).

    2. Removal of central islands on all roads at the junction. This allows for more road space to be given to mark a dedicated cycle lane on approach to the junction where cyclists are more vulnerable or in some cases to provide an additional traffic lane to reduce delay to buses.

    3. Implementing two new diagonal crossings providing a direct link from east to west, from the school side to the bus stops on Tufnell Park Road and the underground station. These would allow pedestrians to cross in one stage instead of crossing two roads before reaching their destination.

    4. Widening the existing crossings to accommodate more pedestrians to cross comfortably at the same time.

    5. Extend double yellow lines on the western side by 16m up to 227/229 Brecknock Road to prevent vehicles parking at this location which will result in traffic congestion due to narrow width of carriageway

    6. Banning the right turn from Junction Road into Dartmouth Park Hill.

    7. Marking advanced cycle stoplines on all approaches including mandatory cycle feeder lanes on Junction Road and Tufnell Park Road.

    8. Banning the left turn from Brecknock Road into Fortess Road.

    9. Provision of a ‘Keep Clear’ road markings opposite Burghley Road to assist with cyclists turning right out of the side road.

    10. Provision of pedestrian countdown timers and a pedestrian only stage allowing pedestrians to cross all roads whilst all other traffic is stopped.

    Camden Council proposes measures to reduce eastbound rat running (up to 450 motor vehicles per hour in the morning rush hour) in Briardale Gardens and Ferncroft Avenue.

    The proposal is a No Entry except for cyclists into Briardale Gardens from Finchley Road. Briardale Gardens itself will remain two way.

  • Proposed changes to Miller Street NW1

    Camden are consulting with residents of, and neighbouring residents to, The Three Fields Estate on Arlington Road.

    Part of their proposal is to remove the awkward dog-leg on Miller Street. Hurray.

    I know Miller Street is a popular east-west desire line and (sort of) connects up with Pratt Street.

    The proposal doesn't mention cycles. Boo. I'd hate to see it being pedestrians only. Although it's difficult to tell what is meant by the pink colouring on the proposed plan, it does look like their will be vehicular access in this area. Let's hope the existing filtered permeability will be maintained.

  • Fortune Green suggested improvements

    Camden Council has funding for a scheme in the Fortune Green area to address rat-running through residential streets, particularly Westbere Road where there is a large secondary school (Hampstead School) to avoid using the the parallel A5 corridor on Shoot Up Hill.

    They scheme will also address pedestrian, cycling and road safety improvements, particularly for the school.

    Camden Cyclists have offered to send suggestions for improvements in the area.

    The preamble describes a "Vision" for Grays Inn Road as part of a larger scheme for the Farringdon Area:

    - improved streets for walking & cycling
    - clearer and easier access to move through the area on foot, cycle or public transport
    - safe, attractive and less cluttered streets
    - a better place to live, work and do business.

    The current set of proposals are related to bus reliability and pedestrian safety. They include the following:

    - Raised zebra crossings at five sites with a standard layout that involves build outs to leave a 9m wide crossing. (some of these replace informal crossings with islands, some are new).

    - Long stretches of double yellow lines with loading restrictions (see Appendix 1 of the consultation).

    - Carriageway cycle parking in Wren Street and several other side streets

    This joint TfL/Camden consultation takes the North – South Cycle Superhighway across Euston Road and continuing with a section of central London grid on Midland Road to join the existing southern extension of the Royal College Street route.

    It includes:
    - Cycle-only green signal to allow cyclists to cross Euston Road separately from motor traffic
    - Two-stage right turn areas to allow cyclists to access Judd Street and Midland Road without crossing lanes of moving traffic

    and two options for Judd Street:
    Option 1 – Full closure of Judd Street at Euston Road / Midland Road junction to allow a dedicated cycle crossing across Euston Road
    Option 2 – Judd Street entry only for motorists from Midland Road, with segregated northbound contraflow cycle track

    Way back in 2015, after consultation, Camden approved a proposal for an east-west segregated cycle route across Camden Town along Delancey Street and Pratt Street (generally referred to as ‘Delancey-Pratt’). See the original discussion on CycleScape.

    The proposals include the banning of the right turn from Pratt Street into Camden High Street in order to provide a safe two-way cycle crossing over Camden High Street. Unfortunately this turn is part of the route for buses 31, N31 and N28.

    The current consultations deal with a minor modification to the Bus Route so that it uses Greenland Street instead of Pratt Street.

    Official title: "CENTRAL LONDON CYCLE GRID - PRATT ST AND DELANCEY ST PROPOSED WALKING AND CYCLING IMPROVEMENTS"

    This consultation proposes the construction of an important two-way east-west cycle route across Camden Town.

    It will run from St Pancras Way along Pratt Street, across Royal College Street to Camden High Street, where a two-way cycle crossing will be provided.

    It will then run two-way along Delancey Street as far as Mornington Terrace.

    A later consultation on the continuation of this route to Regents Park is promised.

  • Recent changes in Oakley Square west

    A few months ago, TfL introduced an 18 month trial of measures in Oakley Square that are intended to reduce motor vehicle speeds to go with a new 20 mph limit.

    They have narrowed the traffic lanes to 3m by applying a strip of fake paving on each side of the road as shown in the photo. These strips are not intended to be cycle lanes. People are expected to 'take the lane' as indicated by the Cycle logos in the traffic lane.

    Camden Cyclists have had complaints on Twitter and by email about the new layout:

    - although there are cycle logos in the traffic lane, drivers tell cyclists that 'take the lane' that they should use the cycle lane.

    - the nearside strip is much too narrow to be an adequate cycle lane.

    Today we met with TfL officers to discuss the problem. The possible short term measures would be either
    1. remove the dashed lines that separate the kerbside strip from the nearside lane so that motors and bikes share a wider kerbside lane (only up to 4m)
    or
    2. make the kerbside strip part of the footway

    We rejected (2) because many cyclists are using the kerbside strip and would find it very unpleasant to share a 3m wide motor lane.

    "The Royal Parks is embarking on an exciting and ambitious journey to develop a Movement Strategy that will influence movement and transportation throughout our parks and London.

    What is the Movement Strategy?

    The Movement Strategy will set a long-term vision for how park visitors will move within, access and subsequently experience the parks.

    The strategy will include a comprehensive exploration of all movement and access related issues and opportunities that are relevant to the parks both now and into the foreseeable future.

    This will include (but is not limited to) increasing safety for all park users, reducing the impact of vehicle-based traffic and reducing conflict between different modes.

    How will it be developed?

    To develop the strategy, we will utilise an evidence-based approach to explore all current and future movement opportunities. Input from key stakeholders, including the general public, will be a critical component in exploring possibilities, conflicts and issues that will inform the creation of the strategy.

    We are seeking input from key partners including the general public, Transport for London, neighbouring boroughs and all interested parties.   • West End Project consultation

    This scheme proposes to restore two way working in Tottenham Court Road (TCR) and in the Gower Street alignment which includes Bloomsbury Street and Shaftesbury Avenue. All the bus routes will be on TCR.

    The consultation is on Camden's website at:

    In TCR, Camden proposes a "bus and cycle street" from 8 am to 7pm (Monday to Saturday) with local access for cars, taxis and loading on short sections of Tottenham Court Road via side roads.

    TCR will have a pair of 4.5m wide carriageways to be shared by cycles and buses (90 buses per hour in each direction) and by the additional local traffic.

    In the Gower Street alignment, Camden proposes two-way access for private motor vehicles (no buses) and that these roads will have a pair of 4.5m wide carriageways, each including a lightly segregated 1.5m wide cycle track.

    Other measures proposed:
    - in both TCR and the Gower Street alignment Camden proposes raised sections of road to reduce motor speeds
    - two-way cycling in all the side streets (except for Maple Street, University Street and Howland Street)
    - new public spaces including a new park on Alfred Place and a ladder of calm side streets.

    Camden are consulting on a proposed planning framework for the northwest part of Kentish Town. This essentially covers the Murphy’s and Regis Road sites and is designed to set parameters for when/if the sites are redeveloped.   • A400 Hampstead Road bus reliability and road safety improvements

    TfL propose changes on A400 Hampstead Road between Harrington Square and Drummond Street "to improve bus journey time reliability and pedestrian safety in the area".

    Where is the promised scheme for safe cycling?
    ====================================

    In February, TfL officer Michael Collella circulated by email a draft scheme for 'bus and cycle improvements' on Hampstead Road asking for our feedback. These include segregated cycle tracks on both side of the road:

    between Mornington Crescent and Varndell Street on the west side

    and between Lidlington Place and a point north of Cardington Street where it merged into a bus lane on the east side.

    This had been preceded by meetings with TfL officer Timothy MacKay in Feb 2015 and April 2014 where similar schemes were proposed.

    What does the current scheme propose ?
    ================================

    This amounts mainly to the removal of all opportunities for loading and parking on the southbound bus lane. i.e. bus improvement.

    They also propose:

    ASLs on all approaches to the junction with Drummond Street. However they say: “ this is to ensure that turning vehicles do not come into conflict with vehicles stopped at the junction”… nothing about benefit to cyclists!

    Pedestrian count down signals on all four arms of the junction with Drummond Street.

  • Bartholomew Road Area Proposals consultation

    In this consultation, Camden proposes some turn restrictions with a view to eliminating rat running through the residential streets in an area north bounded by Leighton Road, Torriano Avenue, Camden Road, Rochester Road and Kentish Town Road.

    The consultation leaflet includes a map showing the main rat runs identified from traffic surveys in 2013 (see image). These included the following:

    A: southbound along Bartholomew Road and out via Patshull Road or Sandall Road (AM peak).

    B: northbound on Bartholomew Road and out at Sandall Road or Leighton Road (PM peak).

    The proposals include the following:

    Junction of Leighton Road and Bartholomew Road
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    - "No Right Turn (Except Cyclists) " from Leighton Road into Bartholomew Road

    - "No Left Turn (Except Cyclists)" from Bartholomew Road into Leighton Road

    The AM counts show 316 motors SB between 8 and 9 am (with 152 NB). This is far above LCC's criterion of less than 200 per hour for safe and comfortable sharing of the road by cycles and motors. In the AM peak, 241 motors turned right from Leighton Road into Bartholomew Road - so the "No Right Turn" from Leighton Road into Bartholomew Road is potentially very effective in reducing rat runs.

    The PM peak figures show 159 motors making the left turn from Bartholomew Road into Leighton Road.

    Junction of Sandall Road and Camden Road
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    - "No right turn (Except Cyclists" from Camden Road into Sandall Road.

    - " No right turn (Except Cyclists)" from Sandall Road into Camden Road.

    - Extend the central traffic island on Camden Road at the junction with Sandall Road to stop the above manoeuvres. There will be a gap in the island to allow cyclists to make these turns.

    The Sandall Road changes will make the junction with Camden Road a lot safer for pedestrians and people who cycle and will also reduce rat running on lines B1 and C.

    Kentish Town Road/ Patshull Road
    ---------------------------------------------------

    - Convert to two way traffic on Patshull Road between Kentish Town Road and Bartholomew Villas. Widen the carriageway at Patshull Road junction with Kentish Town Road to accommodate two way.

    - Relocate the ‘No Entry’ signs at Patshull Road/ Kentish Town Road junction to Patshull Road at the junction with Bartholomew Villas.

    The change is to enable traders e.g. Earth to use a storage place accessible via a little access road running behind the shop. That's why the proposal is to move the No Entry.

    But I think it would be better to place the No Entry just east of the little access road to avoid rat-running via Bartholomew Villas.

  • Arlington Road

    We have been asked to tell Camden Council what changes might be helpful to make Arlington Road more comfortable to cycle on.

    The intention is to deliver it as part of the Cycle Grid by the end of April 2017. 

    We have asked for more details on traffic flows but an initial look seems to show that vehicle movements are significantly below 2000 per day on Arlington Road itself.

  • North-South Cycle Superhighway (extension to Kings Cross)

    The North-South Cycle Superhighway is already under construction between Stonecutter Street and Elephant & Castle.

    TfL, together with Camden and Islington Councils, is now consulting on proposals to extend it north up to King’s Cross.

    The proposal is that it should continue north on Farringdon Road to Greville Street where northbound cyclists would turn onto a quiet back-street route to King’s Cross.

    Southbound cyclists from King’s Cross would turn off the back-street route onto Farringdon Road at Ray Street via a new signalised junction and continue south on a stepped cycle track.

  • Royal College Street Southern Extension (Pancras Road)

    Camden are consulting on their plans to extend the Royal College Street cycle tracks to the south, down Pancras Road towards Kings Cross. Unfortunately, the plans for the junctions at St Pancras and contra-flow up Midland Road are not ready yet, so it will remain difficult to get to and from the south and east until these are finalised, but this is another link in the planned North-South route through the borough as part of the London Cycle Grid.

    For cyclists, the main proposals are as follows:
    - Protected cycle lanes from Royal College Street to just south of Chenies Place.
    - Removal of two bus-stops to make the cycle lanes continuous
    - North-bound bus-stop converted to 'island' style.
    - Southbound bus-stop uses Royal College Street style due to lack of road width.
    - Additional protection for cyclists crossing Crowndale Road from Royal College Street.

We have already had suggestions for improvements to the lane behind the bus-stop at Chenies Place. We will be saying that cyclists heading north to Royal College Street should use Goldington Crescent to avoid one set of traffic lights and the need to cross lanes. What else?

  • Royal College Street Northern Extension

    Camden are consulting residents, cyclists and others on their plans to extend the Royal College Street cycle facilities to the north, across Camden Road and up to Kentish Town Road. If it is approved, we think this will be a great improvement as it will provide protected two-way cycling all the way. Later there are plans to extend it south to Kings Cross.

    We hope you will respond to Camden in support as there may be objections from residents, especially as it results in some loss/relocation of parking.

    For cyclists, the main proposals are as follows:
    - Two way cycling all the way up and down Royal College Street with no need to use St Pancras Way or Camden Street.
    - Protected northbound and southbound cycle lanes with no loading or parking within the cycle lanes.
    - A separate green phase for N-S and S-N bound cyclists at Camden Road.

    The difficult areas are the Camden Road crossing, which we think Camden have handled in an effective and innovative way, and the southbound split at College Gardens, where motor traffic has to bear left but cyclists go straight. This is not easy to handle without the danger of left hooks, but we think that the suggested solution, which involves road narrowing and a raised junction to slow motor vehicles, is the best option.

    Finchley Road
    ============

    1. Ban the left turn for all northbound traffic (motor vehicles and cycles) from Finchley Road into Boundary Road. (Note "And Cycles"!)

    2. Extend the northbound bus lane on Finchley Road

    3. Changes to traffic islands to provide extra space and protection for cyclists travelling east-west along Boundary Road and crossing Finchley Road, as well as providing an improved waiting area for southbound cyclists turning right into Boundary Road from Finchley Road

    4. A new 5-metre part-width Advanced Stop Line (ASL) with early release (a few seconds) on Finchley Road for cyclists travelling southbound.

    5. Widen the existing pedestrian crossing to 3.2 metres on the southern arm of the Finchley Road junction

    6. Enlarge the footway on the south-west corner of the junction,

    Boundary Road
    ============

    7. A new 3.2 metre wide signal controlled pedestrian crossing on the western arm of Boundary Road

    8. Relocate and resize traffic islands to improve cyclists’ comfort

    9. Widen the existing pedestrian crossing to 3.2 metres on the eastern arm of Boundary Road

    10. Widen the central cycle feeder lane on the western arm of Boundary Road

    11. Replace speed cushions with a ‘sinusoidal’ speed hump across the full width of the carriageway on the west arm of Boundary Road

    12. New cyclist detection system on Boundary Road, meaning cyclists no longer have to use a push button to activate the traffic signals to cross or access Finchley Road

  • Changes to the King's Cross gyratory

    TfL are consulting on a major scheme aimed at improving the roads in the Kings Cross area. The consultation proposes the conversion of several key roads from one-way to two-way working (York Way, Pentonville Road, Gray's Inn Road and Caledonian Road). New cycle facilities proposed include cycle contraflow lanes on Wharfedale Road, King's Cross Road, Penton Rise and Acton Street. New signalised crossings for cycles are suggested at Lorenzo Street and Pentonville Road and Penton Rise and Pentonville Road.

    There is no discussion of the engineering details. Those are promised for early 2017 following the results of this consultation.

    An important issue for cycle campaigners will be the feasibility of achieving protected space on the main alignments through the area.
