The cycle parking at Morrisons needs improvement. It is situated at the far end of trolley park with only some surveillance, rather than adjacent to the entrance where it would receive better surveillance. The capacity is limited by the fact that only one side of the railings can be used.

A safe cycle route is needed to link Wingham with Canterbury. The current A257 road environment is not attractive for cycling, due to high motor traffic volumes and speeds.

The cycle parking provision at Whitefriars is minimal and at the periphery. Well surveilled provision is needed close to the shops that it will serve.

The section of the Crab & Winkle Way / NCR1 linking Westgate Court Avenue to Duke's Meadow is narrow, has sharp corners, and has poor visibility. This means that it can be difficult for cyclists and pedestrians to pass and see one another.

The eastbound cycle / pedestrian route sign at the junction between The Boundary and Cotton Road has gone missing. Thus the route directions aren't complete.
Created by Gregory Williams // 1 thread
The westbound sign at the Cow Lane / Cotton Road junction is not bifacial, thus only benefits people already cycling along Cotton Road, not those approaching along Cow Lane from the south.
Created by Gregory Williams // 1 thread
The vegetation beside NCR1 around the bottom edge of Duke's Meadow is encroaching upon the path. This is making it noticeably narrower and gives blind corners for cyclists and pedestrians approaching one another.

The small cycle sign at the Westgate Court Avenue / Fisher Road junction, part of the cycle route between Archbishop's School and Canterbury Academy, is facing the wrong direction. Thus cyclists may get lost. It should be facing south into Fisher Road for cyclists approaching along Westgate Court Avenue from past the cemetery.

Large cracks are forming on the path near the top of the hill. These may cause people to slip or trip. If they widen further then bicycle wheels may become caught.

When emerging from Stream Walk onto Old Bridge Road the NE-bound sign isn't visible. The sign is hidden behind a large hedge. Thus cyclists not familiar with the route may need to stop to find the sign in order to avoid getting lost.

Vegetation is reducing the width of NCR1 between Invicta Way and Thanet Way. This makes it difficult for cyclists and pedestrians to pass one another.

Public footpath CC22 would provide a good shared cycle path link between Sturry Road and Forrester Close and Brymore Road. Its location is particularly suited if the adjacent Territorial Army barracks should ever come up for redevelopment.

The retail park at Stour Crescent has some front wheel cycle parking outside of Matalan and a couple of stands located adjacent to staff car parking spaces at McDonalds. These are all situated near the far end of the retail park and aren't particularly well surveilled. Stands nearer to the shop entrances would improve the provision here.

This road has been left with a hopelessly outmoded junction geometry, with huge radii and a simply breathtaking width. It's so bad that it's not unknown for oncoming vehicles to pass "continental style", because a perfectly reasonable path turning right into the close will take you way over to the right of anyone making a right turn out of the close (note there are no white lines to provide road positioning guidance). This would in fact make a great cycling link from Cob Lane into the park. There is ample room to create a cycle path and a crossing with a central refuge, and make the junction safer and less bizarre for motorists. Instead the city council has elected to take cyclists on an unlit shared path the same width as a bike, across an informal crossing upon which cyclists are instructed to dismount, and along a footpath.

Hazardous side road crossing Coney Avenue on Hollowtree Road, priority change required; turning drivers should give way to cyclists!
Hungate Bridge at the Navigation Road end is heavily bollarded on one end people on bikes and variants and people on foot are forced into a narrowed corridor by bollards. Yet, the width of he route is not restricted on either side.
It is unnatural and unnecessary. It brings people on bikes and variants into contact with each other and with people on foot or in wheelchairs, etc. It seems to be 'traffic-calming'. To my mind this undermines active travel messages and initiatives by making movement more complicated and fraught for all users.

The cycle track on the pavement just suddenly stops with no where to go other than to cycle on the pavement. Surely it would be better to nicely guide cyclists back onto the road into a cycle lane?

"Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) has recently undertaken a feasibility report to investigate cycle links to the new Verulamium Park (Ver Park) Route link to NCN 6 from the King Harry Lane area. We have looked at ways to improve the cycling and walking environment; particularly where this would improve the continuity of cycle routes and the movement of people via active modes around your area. A section of shared use cycle route has been recently provided by the developer Linden Homes and the intention is to extend this facility to Abbey Avenue and northwards towards The Ramparts via an upgraded traffic signal crossing point into Verulamium Park.
The proposals include the following:
· Upgrade the existing traffic signal controlled crossing near Verulamium Park access to a Toucan Crossing,
· To provide improvements to the footway areas on both sides of the traffic signal controlled crossing to make it both suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, and linking into the new section of shared use footway/ cycleway that the developer has recently provided.
· To the south of the new roundabout, on the western side, the existing footway will be widened from 0.9-1.1m to 2.5m to continue the shared use route towards Abbey Avenue.
To upgrade the existing uncontrolled crossing at King Harry Lane jw Abbey Avenue by increasing the widths of the existing pedestrian refuge to widths that can accommodate both cyclists and pedestrians.
This option has been carefully evaluated and full consideration has been given to the likely effects that it may have on residents.
Please find attached a plan which shows details of the proposed scheme for Ver Park Highway Link (Cycleway/ Footway).
At this stage we are intending to implement the proposals during the next financial year, 2014/15.
As such we are now finalising the design and we are interested in hearing your views or any comments you may have regarding the proposals"
Initial comments by John Metcalf
Overall to be welcomed as better than what is there already. But, it could be improved?
1. Traffic entering Abbey Avenue is likely to be going too fast for a safe crossing for those walking or cycling. This is a rat-run to avoid the King Harry roundabouts. Therefore tighten the radii of the junction and make a raised crossing (on a hump). Do we want a Tiger (Zebra for walkers and cyclists) crossing?
2. The crossing of the new roundabout exit into King Harry Park is hazardous. It needs to be upgraded with a humped crossing (and a Tiger?). Is this sufficient or should there also be measures to slow down the traffic entering and leaving King Harry Park.
3. The best solution would be to upgrade the ROW footpath from the toucan crossing of King Harry Lane to Rowlatt Drive

Cycle Route 46 from crosses the old stone bridge across the River Usk between Abergavenny and Llanfoist. There are good, safe and direct cycle paths on either side of the bridge, but the bridge itself is very hostile for cycling, and walking. It is on the A4143 and there is heavy often fast traffic most times of the day. The footway is very narrow and only on one side of the bridge. Although short, this is a difficult section to negotiate, especially for inexperienced or young cyclists.

I am cycling on the snakey trail every day, and there is a high risk that somebody falls into the Cherry Hinton Brook one day. The path and bridge is really too narrow and many people are taking it both ways.
Route proposal for the link from Prospect Road/Verulamium Park to the start of the Alban Way.
The route is a shared, wide, pavement with a width around 3 metres- in line with minimum width for a shared route.

There are concerns about no or too little improvements for walking and cycling along Paper Mill Lane with the increase in traffic caused by the development.

This shortcut is technically pedestrians-only, but forms a useful link from the environs of Bath Spa station (Widcombe) to Holloway, a dead-end for motor vehicles and therefore a quiet, if steep, climb to Bear Flat, Wellsway and beyond.
Dropped kerbs, barrier/chicane removal etc. would make this route usable by parents with cycle trailers, people on cargobikes and the like.
It was slated as a piece of work to be done by Bath & NE Somerset, but there's been no news lately.

The link from Barton Road to the Lammas Land car park (and the car park itself) have been closed to all use by the County Council for some development work. This is a buisy cycle route, and no effort has been put into providing a diversion. Currently most people are cycling across the grass behind the hedge beside the road (though how long this will remain possible if it rains is unclear); an alternative is to use other paths across Lammas Land, but they are narrow, not actually marked for cycling, and it's further.
According to a notice at the junction with Barton Road this work will continue to the start of December. There was and is no warning when approaching from east of the river.

The path between Hyvot Loan and Guardwell Glen has two narrow chicanes at both ends, which are quite overgrown too.
This path is important as it allows people to leave the quiet route northwards towards Ellens Glen, so you can avoid parts of the busy Gilmerton Rd.
I contacted the Active Travel team about it and they are going to look at it. There is some uncertainty if this is owned by the Morrison supermarket or the council. The chicanes were put in after local complaints about motorbike, so the Active Travel team has to investigate if this is still a concern.

West bound traffic on Burley Road approaching the crossroads is segregated into one lane of buses and cycles and one lane of all other traffic. A set of traffic lights 100m from the crossroads gives alternating priority to these two streams: one sequence holds back cars to allow buses to pass through, the other sequence retains the bus lane.
Under the current layout, cyclists that wish to turn left into Willow Road can find themselves detained for some time. They are held back by red lights and lack the room to trickle forward to the later set of traffic lights without coming into conflict with other road users.
However, left-turning cyclists would be able to trickle forward if works were carried out to:
• Reprofile the pavement to allow the installation of a cycle lane following the line on the map.
• Create a bypass to the left of the bus lane lights so that cyclists can legally make headway.
It should be noted that the above measures are only intended for cyclists turning south. Under such measures the stream of traffic is always to the right of the cyclist.
Those going straight ahead (into Burley Rd.) or turning right (into Cardigan Rd.) should remain subject to the bus lane signals because their path crosses that of the other stream.
The current situation constitutes a bottle-neck on routes from the universities and parts of the city centre to Kirkstall and South Leeds. This crossover allows cyclists to access the higher-quality facilities on Kirkstall Road, and avoid the narrower Burley Road (where there is no cycle lane).

The area on the south side of the junction of Elm Street and Museum Street currently houses two decrepit benches, but could more usefully be utilised for cycle parking.
There are a number of businesses clustered around this area (including the large new "MyGo" youth employment centre) which could benefit from customers having access to cycle parking rather than having to go up to Queens Street.

Following recent engagement on the Liveable Streets programme in the Bow area, we are planning to trial some changes to the road layout. These changes are based on suggestions made by local residents and stakeholders.
This trial will help us understand the effects these changes have on the road network and allow residents and businesses to experience the positive impact reduced traffic has on the local area.
During the trial we will be running several events and activities to take advantage of the reduced number of motor vehicles passing through the Bow area, and encourage local journeys to be made by sustainable modes such as walking and cycling. Keep an eye out for more information on these.
Please note that as a part of our preparation for the trial we have consulted with the emergency services, bus operators and Transport for London to ensure they can deliver their services using the changed road layout.

If it is not bad enough in a cycle city that the Great Northern Road, the new road to Cambridge's main train station and cycle parking, does not have a segregated and safe cycle paths, the new development is now being proposed which will prevent a segregated cycleway from access to the Station a Devonshire road.
Does anyone agree that there should be a segregated cycle access to the country's largest cycle park?

The A4143 heading up towards the Hospital is plenty wide enough for a dedicated cycle path on one side or the other (we suggest the west side). This is often a busy and fast road. (Note this this would also solve the safe cycle access to the climbing wall and softplay.)

The, albeit contrived, design expects cyclists travelling East (from or across Rawstorn Rd.) into Crouch Street to use this spur to cross to the opposite ("shared use") pavement to avoid the angled parking along the North side of the street. Unsurprisingly, the spur isn't well used, while the short stay spaces are often full, so the spur is regularly used for parking.

This area has long had dangerous cycle lanes that encourage people to cycle in the dooring zone.
The County have funds to upgrade this section. The question now is what should be present instead.
