  • Red Hall Bridleway

    RE: Declaration of a Public Bridleway at Red Hall at the south western end of the ELOR

    Leeds City Council is considering making a declaration to record the currently permissive bridleway between the Ring Road, Shadwell and Winn Moor Lane (around the perimeter of Leeds City Council’s Red Hall Site) as a Definitive Bridleway and record it on the Definitive Map and Statement.

    I have enclosed a map of the proposed bridleway shown with a solid pink line with cross bars. The section to be dedicated would be between A and B and it will have a recorded width of three metres. The ends of this existing permissive bridleway are to be diverted and improved by the East Leeds Orbital Road and have been included in the Side Roads Order which will enable them to also be recorded on the Definitive Map and Statement. I have attached a map showing the East Leeds Orbital Road, the existing permissive bridleway and the alteration that have been included in the Side Roads Order.

    The East Leeds Orbital Road will also extend the existing permissive bridleway east by providing a public bridleway along its north/ eastern boundary all the way to Barnbow Lane where it will connect to the existing bridleway network and the new/ diverted bridleways within The Springs retail and leisure development. A shared use footway/ bridleway will continue from the western end of the permissive bridleway along the side of the Ring Road/ A6120 to Leeds Bridleway No. 104.

    The claimed footpath across Red Hall Fields from the permissive bridleway to Red Hall Lane has been partially diverted by the Side Roads Order for the East Leeds Orbital Road with a bridge provided over the road. A decision will be taken to divert or dedicate the footpath on the south side of East Leeds Orbital Road will be made when future proposals for this land are decided.

    A Definitive Map Modification Order Application has been made for the claimed footpath that connects between the permissive bridleway and Winn Moor Lane and this is currently being investigated although a decision has not been made.

    I would be grateful to receive any comments that you may have regarding the declaration of the permissive bridleway as a public bridleway within four weeks of the date of this letter, so that they may be taken into consideration.   • Colindale Station Redevelopment (TfL)

    TfL are consulting on significant improvements to Colindale station, including an entirely new ticket hall, a new lift providing step free access to the platforms and new homes around the station. We are seeking views on our proposals ahead of submitting a planning application for the site to Barnet Council.

    Includes: Improve pedestrian and cyclist journeys to and from the station.

  • Stanley Park Road Area - Proposed Highway Improvements

    The Carshalton and Clockhouse Local Committee has agreed to consult residents in the Beeches Avenue / Stanley Park Road / Warnham Court Road area on proposals to reduce the speed of traffic and improve the environment for residents, pedestrians and cyclists. The aim of the scheme is to encourage more people to walk, cycle or use public transport and reduce the number of local car trips. Funding for this scheme is available from Transport for London.

    The principal objective of the Order The Sutton (Speed Limit) (20mph) (Butter Hill Area) (No.*) Order 201* is to improve the environment for both pedestrians and cyclists by introducing a 20mph speed limit.

    The general effect of the Order will be to introduce a 20mph zone in Arcadia Close; Burleigh Avenue; Butter Hill; Caledon Road; Curran Avenue; Devonshire Road; Elm Grove Parade; Leechcroft Road; Lyndon Avenue; Parkfields Close; St Mary Avenue; Vellum Drive; Victoria Avenue; and Westcroft Road between No. 54 and Manor Road North.

  • Draft Colindale Underground Station SPD

    The council has prepared a draft Colindale Underground Station Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for public consultation.

    The document sets out an approach for delivering a new station, with step-free access and increased capacity as part of a residential led mixed use proposal. The new station will be equipped to serve anticipated growth and development in the area.

  • 18/1826/FUL 43-47 Water St - 9 new flats & cycle parking

  • Contraflow on Rae St

    Allow contraflow cycling on Rae Street - the sightlines for crossing Lovers Walk to the station are better than Newall Terrace so this would allow a consistent cycle route into town

  • Brooms Road

    There is a breakdown in cycle paths through the town. One that springs to mind is Brooms Road. After coming past Lidl going towards St. Michael’s Church you lose the cycle lane that was there at the fire station

  • Cargenbridge Roundabout Crossing

    Dangerous road crossing with no central island, and not possible to see fast traffic coming from 3 different roads. Especially dangerous coming from Dalbeattie turning left towards the Garrock and the hospital & trying to get to the cycle path the other side of the road.
    Issue added to the map at the 2018 bike breakfast.

  • Maidenbower cycle path

    Path never gets sweeper over it unlike other cycle tracks. Horse s**t covers path in parts from Calside farm. No lighting on path makes winter travel ‘challenging’. Path has not yet been adopted by the council – why not? Grass cutting is absolutely horrendous when it is done twice a year, glass clippings all over path and not blown up making pavement very slippy. Too long between cuts, path down to two foot in the middle

  • Georgetown to High School, Crossing the Annan Road

    It is not pleasant crossing the roundabout from the Georgetown Road onto the Annan Road to head towards Dumfries High School. Millburn Avenue runs parallel to the Annan Road, and could be used to create a crossing further down the road straight into Noblehill Park and then Greenbrae Loaning. This would need a cycle connection from Georgetown Road, next to the roundabout.

  • Forest Hill Road Speed Reduction

    Southwark became a 20mph borough in March 2015. However, we have identified a number of sites where speeds regularly exceed 20mph, sometimes by a significant amount. This can increase the risk of accidents, as well as the risk that, when accidents occur, injuries may be more serious or even fatal.

    We have conducted a detailed review of the sites where traffic most regularly exceeds the 20mph limit, and we have identified measures to encourage reduced vehicles speeds and keep them to the posted limit.

    Average speeds more than 6mph above the limit, with many vehicles regularly exceeding 31mph, were observed in traffic heading northbound on Forest Hill Road, particularly around the junction with Canonbie Road. We have a duty to make any adjustments necessary to ensure that the law is being upheld, and to look after our residents’ safety.

    Please see below for the plan showing the location of the changes that are planned for Forest Hill Road. These include:

    Crossings on either side of the Brenchley Gardens/Canonbie Road junction to be widened and raised, providing a vertical deflection that will encourage drivers to slow down.
    Proposed bench for seating at the corner of Brenchley Gardens.
    New raised table between Canonbie Road and Honor Oak Rise for vertical deflection to slow traffic.
    Crossing points at Honor Oak Rise and Netherby Road junctions for easier movement by pedestrians.
    New cycle stands near to Netherby Road junction.
    Pedestrian crossing east of Netherby Road to be widened, raised and upgraded to a zebra crossing to provide a safer crossing for schoolchildren.
    We have drawn up these plans in consultation with our partners in Lewisham Council. Together, we think these works will successfully reduce speeds on Forest Hill Road and provide a much better and safer experience for pedestrians and other road users. However, we would appreciate your views on these plans, and whether there are any additional approaches we could take.

    Due to cost considerations, and Forest Hill Road not meeting the current criteria for average and fixed speed camera installation, as set out by the Metropolitan Police, speed cameras will not be considered as part of this scheme. Post monitoring will be undertaken after 6 months from scheme implementation to assess the impact of the proposed measure on the effectiveness in reducing speeds.

    The Local Implementation Plan (LIP) is a statutory document, required by the Greater London Authority Act 1999, which sets out how we intend to implement the Mayor's Transport Strategy (MTS) within the borough.
    Each borough has to produce a Local Implementation Plan which must be approved by the Mayor.
    We are consulting on our third Local Implementation Plan for Transport (LIP3). This sets out the borough's approach to transport, including our ambition to improve road safety and reduce road danger, and investment priorities for both the next three years as well as in the longer term to 2041 at a more strategic level.
    Bromley's LIP3 sets out how the council will deliver and work with partners such as rail operators to deliver an efficient and high quality transport network that safely supports borough residents, visitors to the borough for work and leisure and the borough's economy.
    Bromley's population is expected to increase, with the level of population growth presenting challenges for the borough's transport networks. If this growth in demand for travel were to be accompanied by an equal growth in car use, congestion would get worse, with slower journeys for residents and businesses and a probable deterioration in air quality. To accommodate the projected increase in demand for travel, we need to make the most efficient use of the capacity we have on our transport networks. Given this, the LIP3 outlines the borough's priorities, which include improving road safety by reducing collisions and casualties on the roads, making it easier to walk and choose to cycle, reducing congestion and working with partner organisations to deliver new public transport connectivity such as between the borough's main centres and for example Canary Wharf.

  • North Peckham Healthy Streets

    We would like to hear what you think about proposals to improve cycling and reduce parking pressures within the North Peckham area - that's roughly the area between Burgess Park to the north and Peckham Road to the south - see map below.

    Controlled Parking Zone

    In recent years many residents have told us that parking can be difficult in this area. With the introduction of a parking zone, parking stress is likely to be greatly decreased in the area allowing for safer walking and cycling and prioritising space for residents.

    Please let us know if you would like to see parking restrictions on your street, this would help to free up more spaces for residents to park.

    Cycling Improvements

    In addition, we would like to make changes to some key junctions in the area to create a safer cycle route through North Peckham, this would form part of the Southwark Spine (http://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/cycling/cycle-improvements?chapter=3). This would link existing sections of cycle route at Wells Way (Quietway 8) and Lyndhurst Way (the Southwark Spine) - these cycle routes are intended especially to enable younger or less confident cyclists to cycle more safely.

    Overall, the Southwark Spine is a north to south cycle route through the whole borough. A map can be found in the related documents at the bottom of this page.

    The principal changes we are proposing include:-

    An improved crossing for cyclists and pedestrians at the junction of Wells Way and St George's Way - This will include additional phase for cyclists and widened pavements. (Section A)
    Closing St George's Way to through motor traffic, with a barrier east of Chandler Way - This would be an experimental change, which would be open for public comments for 18 months before a decision is made whether to make it a permenant change. It is intended to reduce through traffic along St George's Way. Access will be maintained to Chandler Way from the west and Cator Street from the east. (Section B)
    Installation of a two-way cycle track on part of Commercial Way - This will facilitate the crossing of cyclists from Chandler Way to Moody Road. (Section C)
    Changes to the crossing at Moody Road - this will help cyclists and pedestrians cross Commercial Way (Section C)
    Footway widening at the junction of Kelly Avenue and Peckham Road - this will create more space for pedestrians and cyclists (Section D)

  • Wintr Fair bins on cycle path

    Extra blue and black bins have been put along Gonville Place, near where the cyclist counter used to be. They narrow the cycle lane in real, and effectively. Their location generally is poorly thought through (if at all). They are clearly intended for visitors to the winter fun fair on Prkers Piece, who will be on foot, but to use the bins they need to cross the cycle lane.

  • Barnet LIP

    The third Mayor’s Transport Strategy (MTS) was published in March 2018 and sets out a new strategic direction for transport in London. It aims to change the way people choose to travel with an overarching vision for 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, cycle or using public transport by 2041.

    Each London Borough has to prepare a Local Implementation Plan (LIP) containing proposals for the implementation of the MTS in its area.

    Barnet’s draft LIP includes Barnet’s transport objectives and identifies key local issues, challenges and opportunities to achieving the overarching mode share aim and nine MTS outcomes. It includes a delivery plan that sets out, in broad terms, the proposals and resources that will deliver the LIP objectives and targets associated with indicators related to the MTS outcomes.

    A number of statutory consultees will be specifically invited to comment on the draft LIP, but we want everyone who lives in or visits the borough to have an opportunity to comment too.

    have the main challenges and opportunities to delivering the MTS vision and outcomes been identified (pages 24-60);
    are the borough transport objectives identified in the document (pages 26-29) suitable for addressing the challenges;

    should any other targets be identified (pages 103-110)
