  • PR0597 Amend loading restrictions on Mill Road

    Cambridgeshire County Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police the effect of which will be to :-

     

    Amend the no loading and unloading restrictions on Mill Road, Cambridge from Monday to Saturday 8.15 – 9.15am and 5pm – 6pm to Monday to Saturday 7.30 - 9.30am and 4.30 - 6.30pm in the follow locations;

     

    • South side from a point 8 metres south east of its junction with Argyle Street in a south easterly direction for a distance of 41 metres.
    • South side from a point 18 metres south east of its junction with Stockwell Street in a south easterly direction for a distance of 35 metres.
    • North side from its junction with Sedgwick Street in a south easterly direction for a distance of 55 metres.
    • South side from a point 27.5 metres south east of its junction with Cockburn Street in a south easterly direction for a distance of 52 metres.
    • North side from a point 6.5 metres south east of its junction Catharine Street in a south easterly direction for a distance of 40 metres.
    • South side from a point 11 south east of its junction with Thoday Street in a south easterly direction for a distance of 39 metres.
    • South side from a point 19 metres east of its junction with Romsey Terrace in an easterly direction for a distance of 46.
    • North side from a point 16 metres east of its junction with Ross Street in an easterly direction for a distance of 47 metres.

  • Roadworks: Royal College Street

    From 20th November until 18th December contractors Sf Stefan will be laying broadband fibre on Royal College Street. This will affect the northbound with-flow cycle lane. As far as possible, a segregated cycle lane will be maintained by closing parking bays and using barriers to make a cycle lane in the main carriageway but there may be a few locations where cyclists temporarily have to use the main carrigeway.

  • Roadworks: Gower Street

    From Monday 25th November to Monday 2nd December Gower Street will be closed from Grafton Way to between Torrington Place and Chenies Street for resurfacing. There will be no access for motor vehicles nor cyclists and both University Street and Torrington Place will be closed with diversions in operation. This will obvously have a major impact on the E-W cycle route on Tavistock Place/Torrington Place. Details of diversion routes are shown in the attached thread.

    Then from December 2nd until Monday 9th the works move south and Gower Street will be closed from north of Chenies Street to mid-way down Bedford Square. The E-W cycle route on Tavistock Place/Torrington Place will re-open. This should have less impact but there will still be local diversions.

  • Roadworks: Eversholt Street

    From 25th November to 23rd December one lane of Eversholt Street will be closed between Phoenix Road and Drummond Crescent for work on a 16" water main. Traffic will be two-way but controlled by signals and therefore is likely to be even more congested than usual. In addition, Phoenix Road will be closed so cyclists will need to use Polygon Road to access Somers Town and Ossulston Street.

  • West Greenwich (Hills & Vales ) Traffic Reduction

    To reduce through traffic in the Hills and Vales area of West Greenwich.

    Two options are offered:-

    1. 4 Modal filters and a one way road.

    2. 2 modal filters 2 one ways and a timed restriction with camera control on Hyde vale.

    Even very narrow lanes in this area are used by rat running vehicles, often at unsuitable speeds, so removal of through traffic will improve the area.

  • Cycling and Walking Link - Rickmansworth Station/Colne Valley Trail

    The Colne and Crane Green Infrastructure Strategy includes a proposed new walking and cycling link between Rickmansworth Station and the Colne Valley Trail at Rickmansworth Aquadrome. At its meeting on November 4th 2019, Batchworth Community Council set up a project to ensure that this new route was implemented via Rickmansworth Town Centre, in line with two of Rickmansworth Parish Councillors' strategies.

    This would involve designing the preferred route via Bury Lane, Rickmansworth and then part-funding Hertfordshire County Council to create it.

    This shows the course of the preferred route, which is open to a phased implementation as funds permit.

  • Create Dutch Style Cycle Map/Waypoints for Cambridge

    This is a suggestion to create a Dutch style cycle map for the area around Cambridge and get the waypoints and routes marked on the ground to help navigation by bike, and then use it to measure progress on creating better routes.

  • Rushgrove Park Draft Masterplan

    Plans to improve Rushgrove Park include a new crossing of the Silkstream near Colindeep Lane, with a new access point on Colindeep Lane, joining with the existing route following the western side of the park to emerge on Crossway.  The draft masterplan describes this as the "primary shared cycle and footpath with seasonal tree avenue".

  • Colindale Park Draft Masterplan

    Plans to improve Colindale Park include a 3.2m wide shared-use pedestrian/cyclist path linking Colindale Station and Sheaveshill Avenue.

    It is described in the draft masterplan as a commuting route - it's actually the 250m long path at the NE edge of the park.

  • Public Realm & Road Safety Improvements on Cartwright Gardens

    Cartwright Gardens is the middle section of the road that runs south from Euston Road;  the top section being called Mabledon Place and the bottom section  Marchmont Street.

    It is well known to people who cycle (or used to do so before Midland Road opened) into Bloomsbury via the Somerstown route and cross Euston Road from Ossulston Street.

    For as long as I remember, there has been no footway on the side adjacent to the green space on the west side. And when you cycle up there, you often pass forlorn pedestrians keeping close to the fence.

    A new path is being added to the west side of the B1049 to connect the Greanleas estate to the Buxhall farm school.  It is too narrow for shared used.  Can we improve this?

  • Orbital route: poor road surface and no cycle lane

    Cycle lane ends shortly after Hazel Court travelling southbound on James Street, road surface and traffic gets worse on approach to Lawrence Street junction. Feels dangerous when travelling at rush hour with lorries, construction traffic and buses passing closely.

    We want to know your views on our design proposals for a landmark development at Southwark station.

    Background

    In June 2019 we asked for your thoughts on our vision for the area bounded by Blackfriars Road, The Cut, Hatfields and Isabella Street. Your feedback has been used to inform the proposed designs.  

    We are working with the London Borough of Southwark (LBS) and the Styles House Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) to progress designs for new council homes, offices, new public realm and shared space.

  • Denmark Hill Bus Lane Improvements

    Overview

    We would like your views and ideas on proposals to improve bus journey times along Denmark Hill.

    The bus lanes are on a hill in this section and it has been observed that cyclists can hold up buses, as the lane is currently too narrow for buses to safely overtake cyclists travelling up the hill.

    In order to improve this, we are proposing to widen some sections of the bus lane between Champion Hill and Sunray Avenue, with priority given to the uphill sections. These proposals should improve journey times for passengers using the 42, 68 and 468 bus routes. By making bus travel more reliable, this supports Transport for London's Healthy Streets indicator: 'People choose to walk, cycle and use public transport'.

    To widen the bus lane and still maintain the carriageway width for other vehicles, we plan to

    • remove the central reservation by Ruskin Park
    • remove the traffic island by Blanchedowne
    • remove the central hatching road markings

    To improve conditions for pedestrians, we plan to

    • Replace the staggered crossing by Champion Hill with a straight crossing on a raised table
    • Improve footway surface around new raised crossing by Champion Hill/ Ruskin Park
    • Provide drop kerb and tactile paving at the informal crossing by Deepdene Road

    We will also be extending the low level planting by Ruskin Park.

  • Gray’s Inn Road Cycling, Walking & Road Safety Proposals

    Camden's Main Proposals

    • protected cycle lanes in both directions on Gray’s Inn Road, from Harrison Street in the north to High Holborn in the south
    • improve the junctions of Gray’s Inn Road with (a) Sidmouth Street/Ampton Street and (b) Guilford Street/Calthorpe Street
    • continuous footways at all side road junctions

  • Cyclist access to Maldon Road from Creffield Road

    Currently there is no entry from Creffield Road to Maldon Road, this means cyclists have to divert via Inglis Road which is a poor junction for cyclists. A request has been submitted for changes to the juction to let cyclists enter Maldon Road from Creffield Road. It's understood that Cllr Sue Lissimore has subimtted this to the Local Highways Panel (LHP).
