  • Wealdstone Town Centre Redevelopment

Created by Anoop // 1 thread

Harrow council is proposing to reroute buses in Wealdstone town centre in order to improve bus reliability. They are also proposing expensive re-modelling of junctions and repaving of the high street, but without any changes to the car circulation plan or new cycle routes.

There will be a short section of cycle path along a short section of the high street (part of the TfL Quietway), but another section of the high street is becoming one-way with no cycling contraflow. Cycle desire lines to and from the station or Harrow Leisure centre are not catered for at all. Many of the pedestrian desire lines lack formal crossings.

There are no measures to reduce car traffic or restrict cars from certain roads, beyond the restrictions that exist already. Overall this scheme will do little to increase walking or cycling in Wealdstone.

  • Access for people cycling to Milton Road Primary School

Created by Sarah Hughes // 1 thread

I'm concerned that the current entryway design and policy on entering the school grounds at Milton Road Primary School is dangerous for people cycling (many of whom are children). I would like to suggest an improved entryway design and policy on entering the school grounds to the school for their consideration. Is there anyone with experience in this area who could advise? Or anyone who'd like to join me in making the submission?

  • Bene't Street closed for sewer repair

Created by Roxanne (Cycling Campaign Officer) // 1 thread

Bene't street will be closed for four weeks (until early/mid Feb 2020) so that Anglian Water can work to repair a collapsed sewer in Cambridge. A diversion for cars will in place. The footpath is open to people walking and pushing their cycles. The diversion for the cars means that Corn Exchange street is two-way for cars and this has implications for people cycling on the contraflow lanes.

  • Gritting and slipping

Created by Cllr Ian Manning // 1 thread

I'm investigating multiple reports of accidents with experienced cyclists suddenly slipping off their bikes and would appreciate knowing about anyone this has happened to recently.  The common characteristics are:

    Experienced cyclists.

    No frost/ice on road.

Sudden loss of control of bike, wheels slipping out.

    Visible residue on the road.

Injury serious enough to go to A&E.

  • A19 Southbound at Germany Beck pinch point

Created by Mick Allan // 1 thread

Cyclists travelling southwards on the approach to Germany Beck Spine rd are seriously pinched by traffic. Drivers have always sped up here as they near the 40mph zone with the promise of the ring road beyond. With the recent addition of traffic lights at this point they are even more inclined to speed up for fear of being delayed by a changing traffic light. There's a nominal slip road for traffic making a left turn (towards Fordlands and GB estate) and the lane narrows like a funnel at this point. To make matters worse the mild sweep to the right and a slight change in slope on the approach to this point makes it very difficult to see that the road gets narrower. There's also a drain cover precisely on the apex of the pinch point which requires bicyclists to make a choice - ride over the drain cover or pull out to go around it. Riders who adopt a strong primary position going through this junction, but those who ride in the gutter will get squeezed. And there's certainly not enough space for a car to make a safe pass of a cyclist here. The idea of riding through here with a truck or a bus on my arse fills me with dread. It's an accident waiting to happen.

  • Trumpington busway - campaign for improvements

Created by Heather Coleman // 1 thread

As described in the winter 2019 Camcycle magazine there is a group working on getting some improvements to the Trumpington busway.  The magazine concentrates on the northern end of the busway but we are also seeking upgrades to the Addenbrookes spur junction and the crossing at Hobson Avenue/Lime Avenue as well as adding pedestrian footpath from the Hills Road Bridge all the way to Drury Avenue.

The group would like to start getting this out to users of the path for input, discussion and help with campaigning.  Many Biomedical Campus commuters presumably use this path frequently, even daily.  It would be great to get some input.

  • Hounslow Bike Hangars

Created by Hounslow Cycling Campaign // 1 thread

London Borough of Hounslow is consulting on the provision of secure cycle parking in residential streets around the borough.

The council has recently installed an on-street bikehangar in Chiswick at Ashbourne Grove and has received further requests from several residents nearby.  Bikehangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden, is limited. This is part of the council’s commitment to encourage more sustainable forms of transport for daily journeys.  The council covers the installation cost of new bikehangars via an annual grant allocation from Transport for London to increase cycle parking provision in the borough, there is a rental fee per year of £72 per space, plus a deposit for a key (£25). The allocation of spaces is managed by the council’s contractor, Cyclehoop, who also look after ongoing maintenance.

Each new installation is the subject of a separate consultation.  This is presumably because of the sensitivity of residents to any reduction in the number of parking spaces for cars.
