School traffic from King Henry VIII School, exiting the school onto Pen-y-Pound, uses this very narrow route as a quicker way, at a busy times, of getting to the A40 or to Old Hereford Road. Can anything be done to discourage drivers from using these narrow lanes as a rat-run?
The issue of fly-tipping on Deri Road was also raised.

We have of course been campaigning for a cycle and pedestrian connection enabling more direct movement between Kentish Town Road and Grafton Road for years. At one time a semi-official route via Arctic Street was actually established, but the landowner eventually vetoed it for various reasons.
How can we revive the campaign for this?

The Draft Cambridgeshire Long Term Transport Strategy and Local Transport Plan Refresh has, as a City Deal item, a £43million project to create "Comprehensive segregated bus priority / Busway on Newmarket Road into Cambridge between Airport Way and Elizabeth Way / East Road."
This is quite clearly an opportunity to get far better cycle provision on this corridor.

For a change, I tried following the route signs for the station today. As well as a mystery tour near the Grafton centre where the signs simply stop, my route was blocked at Gresham Road by "WET TAR" and a sign proclaiming it. No diversion was signed and there were no advance warning signs that would have let me pick a better route earlier. Plenty of people were riding along the footways - enough that it was too crowded for me to feel safe doing so. I performed a U-turn, waited a second time at the crossroad traffic lights and rode along the very busy Gonville Place and Hills Road instead.
I've tweeted at Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridge City Council in https://mobile.twitter.com/mjray/status/453926972843118593 because I don't think that is legal - a cycle route suddenly being blocked by wet tar does not comply with the code of practice on safety at streetworks, which is required by law. I'm disappointed to encounter this in Cambridge.

The DfT have contracted consultants to come up with a concept for a north south cycle route broadly following the alignment of the HS2 railway line, but linking up key points of interest and centres of population along the way. For the section from East Midlands Airport to the new station at Toton, a key issue is where the cycle route should cross the Trent. There is a compromise to be made between the shortest route from EMA-Toton and locating the bridge where it would serve the largest population. A more Eastern bridge would serve large population centres in Beeston & Clifton, whereas a more western bridge would be a more direct route. A possible compromise would be to locate the bridge near the existing rail bridges at Trent Junction near Trent Lock.

The National Speed Limit currently applies on this very narrow lane. There should surely be be a 20mph limit here? Pentre Road runs along the tops of a number of residential streets on the edge of Abergavenny. It is popular with cyclists and pedestrians. Much of the lane is extremely narrow, with some blind bends, and it is not possible to drive safely along here faster than 20mph.

There has been a surge in use of the station during tram works. Some new users may continue using the station after completion. There is no car park so the village is full of cars. The cycle racks aren't heavily utilised, might be more cycle usage if secure cycle parking were provided.

A white dividing line was put down on University Boulevard in error by the tram contractor. It was not agreed by the City Council.
The white line will be removed. However the cycle path alongside University Boulevard is to be programmed for resurfacing - this will remove the white line and upgrade the surface. This work will be undertaken and paid for by the tram contractor as part of the works they are undertaking to upgrade cycle facilities along the new tram routes.

When I popped into the Cambridge Wine Merchants last night, there were signs on all the posts and sheffield stands saying "no cycle parking from 6am, 7th April". I assumed some royal visit. I asked the man in the shop if he thought people not being able to park would affect trade and he said he hoped not. However, by the post where I normally park there's a big "road closed" sign, 6am-6pm (I think).
He is under the impression that there is filming going on from 7am-10am. It is period filming in the 1950s therefore you can't have sheffield stands (probably not invented) or modern bikes.
My main question/gripe is, when I see a "road closed" sign, I assume I will be able to get through even if I need to dismount and wheel my cycle. Sometimes, if it's a long walk, it may be quicker to cycle via another route. From the nature of what I've been told is going on, it sounds to me as if actually the road will even be closed to pedestrians, well unless they're wearing authentic 1950s dress.
Does anyone know any more? Does anyone know anything about the legal status of forcing pedestrians to take a lengthy diversion from what is the public highway? There are various cyclescape threads which have mentioned that although cars only have a permissive right to use the road, pedestrians have some stronger right. Can they force pedestrians and dismounted cyclists to go another route, when it's not an issue of national security?

Has there been any improvement in the "new" NCN 11 route from Waterbeach to Lode since last summer? Last time I went that way I had to wheel the bike across fields and carry it over two or three stiles.

There are a lot of schools in our ward, and a lot of traffic. Children should be able to cycle to them safely without having to share space with high volume, fast traffic. Schools should all have 20mph zones, with car-free access around the school, and protected routes to arrive there.

Bushy Park is a pleasant place to cycle and provides a number of potential routes for people wanting to get around the area. However, it should be possible to leave the Park at the Holly Road exit and proceed without the current level of potential conflict and threat inherent in the present route. We’d like to see protected space for cycling allowing people to leave the Holly Road exit and get to Broad Lane and the nearby schools - Denmead and Carlisle Infants.

Transport for London are "proposing improvements for pedestrians and cyclists by providing signalised shared ‘Toucan’ crossings for pedestrians and cyclists on all four arms of Charlie Brown’s Roundabout. Presently there are no signalised crossings at the roundabout. Pedestrians and cyclists using the existing un-signalised informal crossing points need to wait for a safe gap in the traffic to cross, which can be difficult at times and make them feel unsafe."

This section of road is surprisingly hostile to cycle along on account of the restricted width, parked vehicles and high traffic speeds. I have had drivers behind me screech to a halt when they realised that they are likely to collide with me or an oncoming vehicle, and moving out to pass parked vehicles is needlessly stressful.
There is a vehicle activated "30 mph" light-up sign along this road but it is hopelessly inadequate, and more substantial methods of reducing traffic speed are going to be necessary.
Note also that the option of using Snowdon Road and then Fishponds Road is not only longer and steeper, but still involves awkward pinch points northbound along Fishponds Road. This is an important route linking the Hollies (halls of residence) and UWE Glenside with the centre of Fishponds and thus ought to be a priority within this area.

There is currently a cycle track to the David Lloyd sports centre from the Staines Rd; which turns into a muddy track, blocked at the exit to Uxbridge Road by a difficult and narrow gate.
Upgrading this short section of path with decent surfacing, streetlighting and removal of obstacles would provide a good link from the cycling facilities on the A316 and the Staines Road onto the schools in Hampton.

There is room on this pavement for a properly segregated cyclepath that would feed up to Christ's school and continue up as a quiet route up to near the top of Richmond Hill as an alternative to the busy and unpleasant Queen's Road.

Drop kerb removed from Tanners Moat-Rougier Street pavement as part of Lendal gyratory works Feb-Mar 2018. Makes movement from Tanners Moat to Rougier St pavement difficult, hazardous, unattractive, painful for people with buggies, wheeled luggage, in mobility buggies, in wheelchairs or pushing same, people on bikes and all variants including heavy electro-assist models, laden with luggage (part of NCM65 avoiding pedestrian-only Scarborough bridge), with children, with trailers, and everyone who experiences pain from lifting/bumping a bike or anything else up a kerb.
Brings people on bikes and variants turning off Lendal bridge into Tanners Moat into conflict with those using the cycle cut-through as a dropped kerb. (The turn is already tricky.)
Council said it didn't do counts of who uses or the type of user on Tanners Moat before removing the drop kerb.
Undermines Government aim for most short journeys to be made on foot or on bike by 2040.
Does not support York's ageing population.
Undermines the tourism offer.

Drivers are unaware/don't care/don't see cyclists in the cycle lane, so pull out of Lidl an Old Worting Road turning left, or turn right from Worting Road to Old Worting Road leading to very near misses. The cycle lane should be replaced with access to Old Worting Road near the bus stop, and improved access to Lidl provided.

The padlocked barrier at the end of Hospital Fields Road is inaccessible for non-standard cycles, and difficult to pass through for anyone except the most able-bodied cyclists.

Warwick Road is marked as an "Advisory Cycle Route" on the Suffolk County Council cycle map.
However, in morning rush hour it is frequently backed up a considerable distance heading south towards the traffic-light controlled 4 way junction with St Helens Street / Spring Road / Grove Lane.
There is an ASL on these lights, but in practice the carriageway is too narrow to allow cycles to pass the stopped traffic on the left hand side - particularly as the route is used by buses which occupy the space right up to the kerb.
Overtaking on the right is not a safe option where there is queue of stopped traffic as this is a two-way road with the added complication of traffic pulling out from Lancaster Road.
Given that the motorised traffic flow seems to be mainly south bound it would seem appropriate to make this a one-way street with a proper cycle lane including changing the phasing of the lights to allow cycles an advance phase to make the turn into Spring Road / St Helens Street.
One-way flow up another of the cross streets (probably Palmerston Road ) in the Northbound direction would complete the "loop" for cars and also ease traffic flow on that road which is currently difficult for cars or bikes to negotiate in a northbound direction in rush hour.

Northumberland Road (part of Concord Way at this point) has been deliberately narrowed to allow pedestrians to cross between the footbridge and the Sports Centre and a cycle lane marking has been placed to one side of the narrow gap. The gap, however, is not wide enough to allow a car and a bicycle to go safely through the pinch point at the same time. A cyclist needs to take the centre of the lane, or pull over and wait for vehicles to pass.
Either the carriageway should be re-widened (preferred) or the cycle lane indicator should be removed.

For the last year Torrington Place and Tavistock Place have had segregated cycle tracks on both sides of the street. This consultation is about making the current trial arrangement permanent. The current lightly segregated tracks would mostly become stepped tracks and there would be other improvements to junctions as well as increased space for pedestrians. There is a lot of local support but also significant opposition, mostly from residents of Judd and other streets where motor traffic volumes have increased. We think this can be corrected by the (separate) proposed changes to Judd Street and at Brunswick Square.
It's important that all cyclists and others in favour respond using the website below. Otherwise we are in danger of losing this flagship facility. You don't have to live in Camden but you do need to provide an address and postcode.

The four-way junction at Cross Street / Monk Street is dangerous for cyclists, with large vehicles making the turn, crossing onto the other side of the road. It is even more dangerous for pedestrians. There are no pedestrian crossings provided at this crossing requiring pedestrians to walk a very long way around to get from one side of Cross Street to the other, or to take a chance by crossing through the motor traffic.

Map shows the route which Hertfordshire are upgrading as part of the Hatfield to Rail Station link footpath works. The plan is just for enhanced lighting, when what really should be done is to make this shared use.
Cyclists would then use the exisiting route from the station up French Horn Lane, push accross the Puffin crossing (or cycle on road), use the stub road to the phone exchange and then go shared us to the Toucan crossing to the Market Place. That is the start of the on and off road cycle route to the University and De Havilland Village, the Alban Way and beyond.
Without this link cyclists have to use Queensway and turn at the large fast two lanes wide roundabout at the junction with Wellfield Road. This is a major deterrnet to use.
Other than two sheffield stands in the train station there is no secure cycle parking available in Buxton. This is discouraging people from travelling to this tourist hotspot by bike.

Heading southbound from New Malden along Malden Road, there is a segregated bike path for most of the route between the Fountain Roundabout and the A3. Unfortunately it ends around 100m before the A3 junction, and bikes are forced back onto the busy A2043.
It would be a good idea to link the bike path along the A2043 to paths around the roundabout, to make a joined up route.

When traffic backs up on Spring Road from the Grove Lane lights motor vehicles cut through via Bartholomew Street, Alexandra Rd, Warwick and Lancaster Roads to Palmerston and then onto St Helens.
They travel fast and a group of five or more motor vehicle drivers copying each other is not unusual, at peak times.
To protect the residents of these narrow streets, filtered permeability would seem to be the only answer.

The railway bridge over Ockford Ridge results in a narrowing, just as the road bends. The footway here is left narrow, sightlines are poor and the surface is in a poor state.

For pedestrians
Relocate the crossing at the junction. At the moment pedestrians on the eastern side of Streatham High Road cannot see oncoming traffic around the bend and vehicles cannot see people crossing. By relocating the crossing that is currently north of the junction on Streatham High Road to where demand is higher and making it a straight-across signal-controlled crossing we can make it safer for all road users. This relocated crossing would replace the existing unsignalised crossing on the southern arm of the junction where there is significantly lower demand
Create a raised imprint block-paved effect crossing on Gleneldon Road indicating to drivers that pedestrians are likely to be crossing making it easier and safer for people approaching the relocated crossing.
For cyclists
Cycling would be permitted in the proposed bus lane on Tooting Bec Gardens (see below).
For bus passengers
Introduce a bus lane on Tooting Bec Gardens approaching the junction by removing some parking. 15 high-frequency bus routes pass through the junction. Delays resulting from the new crossing would be mitigated by a new 170 metre bus lane on Tooting Bec Gardens approaching the junction. There are often gaps in the parking so the proposal minimises the overall loss of parking spaces and makes more efficient use of the space (see the drawing for the location)
Ban the right-turn into and out of Shrubbery Road on Streatham High Road. Northbound buses are currently delayed by vehicles turning right into Shrubbery Road, approximately 150 metres north of the junction, because of a short right-turn pocket in the road. We therefore propose to ban the right-turn from Streatham High Road into Shrubbery Road for all traffic. There would also be a longer right-turn pocket to allow vehicles to queue without blocking traffic when turning into Sunnyhill Road. Vehicles turning right out of Shrubbery Road can also delay southbound traffic including buses so it is proposed that is banned too. Before we make the banned turns permanent we would monitor congestion and bus delays to confirm if it is necessary to mitigate the impact of the relocated crossing and making it controlled and will publish our findings
We would need to extend the right-turn ban from Mitcham Lane into Streatham High Road southbound to include buses. This wont have an impact on bus passengers as this turn is only used by buses 'not in service'. By fully banning the turn we reduce the traffic impact of the relocated crossing and making it controlled.

Suggested points:
1. This is a 'gateway' to the 20mph area and the opportunity to mark this and make it work should not be missed. It's not enough to just narrow and reshape the carriageway. It should feel different.
2. Central islands and build-outs introduce pinch points that make cycling feel less safe. There should be a cycle lane through the pinch point in line with guidance.
