  • North East Peckham Parking Zone 'T' Review and Extension

    Overview

    We are proposing to implement parking restrictions to prioritise parking for residents in the streets south of Old Kent Road.

    At the same time we would like to review the existing parking restrictions in Trafalgar zone (T). Permit requirements were removed in 2006 and we would like to determine whether this arrangement still works or whether we should reinstate the permit requirements.

  • Brenchley Gardens 20mph

    Overview

    We are proposing to make changes to Brenchley Gardens to reduce vehicle speed and improve safety for users by providing better facilities for walking, cycling and accessing public transport. Speed surveys have told us that the average speed of vehicles on Brenchley Gardens is 26.5mph which is above the speed limit. 

    Our proposals for Brenchley Gardens are focussed on reducing vehicle
    speed in-line with Southwark’s 20 mph review. We are proposing
    traffic calming measures including raised tables and carriageway
    narrowing. These measures will also have additional benefits including:


    • Improved pedestrian crossings
    • Footway widening


    Our proposals have been designed using national
    design standards and best practice but to ensure the scheme meets the needs of the local community, we need to hear from you

  • Barnet Draft Long Term Transport Strategy 2020-2041 Consultation

    "Barnet’s population is growing and by 2030 it will have grown to almost 450,000 people, with a significant increase in the older population. We want to ensure that transport in the borough can support this growth and provides a reliable, safe and convenient transport network which supports improvements to air quality and the health of all of our residents."

  • A41 Finchley Road - Swiss Cottage to Childs Hill

    TfL propose bus and walking improvements along Finchley Road between Hillgrove Road (Swiss Cottage) and Hendon Way (Childs Hill),

    No direct references to improving cycling along this route. Mostly in Camden. 

    Only the Hendon Way junction is in Barnet. See Barnet Cyclists issue A41-A598 Burgess Hill for discussion of that junction.

  • A23 Streatham Hill Cycleway

    Our proposals at a glance  

    Transport for London (TfL), together with Lambeth Council would like to know your views on proposals for improvements which will include:

    • High quality segregated cycle lanes and bus stop bypasses throughout the extent of the scheme
    • Straight-across pedestrian crossings relocated to be where people want to walk and cross the road
    • Zebra crossings proposed to cross the cycle lane to signalised pedestrian crossings across the main carriageway
    • 2 additional pedestrian crossings
    • Bus lanes maintained or implemented and operational hours extended to between 07:00 - 19:00 Monday to Saturday throughout the scheme
    • 20mph speed limit throughout
    • Changes to side road access including restrictions and closures, redesign and resurfacing
    • New traffic signals at the Telford Avenue junction
    • Improvements to public realm throughout the route, unlocking areas by removing central brick build planters and planting of new trees and landscaping
    • Changes to some parking and loading provision  

    To complement this scheme we have been working with Lambeth Council to develop a Low Traffic Neighbourhood in the nearby residential areas to the east of the A23. This will complement the A23 scheme by protecting local streets from through traffic and will help deliver wider objectives such as creating Healthy Routes on local roads.     Have your say - Healthy Streets improvements between Wembley and Willesden Junction

    Transport for London (TfL) and the London Borough of Brent are working together to develop Healthy Streets improvements between Wembley and Willesden Junction. These changes would make it easier and safer to walk, cycle, and use public transport in the area. Making the area safer, greener and reducing car travel. In this area, every year, people are seriously injured, some fatally. This cannot go on, and the Mayor has set a target to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on London’s roads to zero by 2041. Toxic air quality and high levels of physical inactivity are also contributing to premature deaths and poor health, especially in children. Together we want to improve this, particularly around schools. We know to achieve this some compromises will have to be made especially how much we use cars to travel. We want to create a better environment for everyone who wants to travel to and around the borough. So we are inviting local people to tell us how they currently travel around the area and what changes they would like us to make that would help and encourage more people to choose active travel options in the community.

    Overview

    We are improving walking and cycling facilities on Sumner Street including the junction with Southwark Street. These changes will:

    • Provide a more pleasant environment for people visiting Tate Modern and local businesses;
    • Improve cycle facilities and the connection to Cycle Superhighway 7; and 
    • Create a healthier, safer street in line with the Healthy Streets approach.

  • Dog Kennel Hill Junction and Champion Hill 'No Entry'

    Summary

    We would like to know your view on our proposals for:

    1. Improvements to pedestrian and cycle facilities at the Dog Kennel Hill junction with Grove Hill Road and Champion Hill; and
    2. Making permanent the ‘No Entry' on Champion Hill.

    These changes will improve safety, encourage cycling and walking in line with the Healthy Streets approach, and will enable the junction to form part of Cycleway 17. These changes represent the first stage of wider area changes as part of the Camberwell area-wide study.

    The key measures proposed are:

    • Segregated westbound cycle lane in Grove Hill Road;
    • Separate cycle signal at the Grove Hill Road junction;
    • Early release for cyclists at Champion Hill;
    • Footway widening in Grove Hill Road; and
    • ‘No entry' to be made permanent in Champion Hill.

  • Vandalism of Riverside Bridge cables - 2019-12-12

    Back on 12th December 2019, I cycled over Riverside Bridge and noticed that one of the bridge cables had been cut.

    I've just uploaded 2 photos to CycleStreets:

    I would like to know if it is since been repaired -so if anyone here cycles over Riverside Bridge, please could you take a look.

    And if it has not been fixed, who/how show I report it, please?

    Or has anyone else reported it already?

  • Hendon Central - Heathy Streets

    TfL and boroughs are also working with local communities in each area to give the high streets local branding and identity. This includes welcome signage, wayfinding to local points of interest such as markets and artwork championing subjects of local significance.

    The first six locations to receive Healthy High Streets funding include:

    • Hendon Central (Barnet) - New decorative 'Welcome to Hendon' signage will be installed along with additional cycling parking, new trees and refreshed planters around Hendon Central Tube station

  • Could Ancaster Road become a bus gate?

    Could Ancaster Road become a bus gate allowing walking, cycling, buses, and taxis only to encourage active travel and public transport use over the private cars for short journeys to the station and town. This would help to make Birkfield Drive quieter for walking and cycling, as the hill currently makes it a particularly poor experience for cycling up.

    This is a more radical idea, however is the sort of thing that's required for resolving the climate emergency and encouraging active travel. This sort of thing is very common in places like The Netherlands.

  • Hounslow Climate Emergency Action Plan

    London Borough of Hounslow says that "In June 2019, Hounslow Council declared a climate emergency. In recognition of the urgent threat posed by climate change, we have committed to reducing council emissions to net zero by 2030, as well as working with residents and businesses to help reduce their own carbon emissions.[...]  The draft Action Plan outlines seven key programmes for reducing Council direct carbon emissions, and in acknowledging the Council’s community leadership role, we have developed a further six programmes to address borough-wide emissions."

    The document setting out the proposed Action Plan is long and somewhat long-winded, as is the way of these things.  The seven internal programmes and six external ones are outlined in easy-to-read graphics on pp40-41 and pp51-52 respectively.
